    Kenwood Tx on 121.5

To my knowledge, the only one that works on both 2m and Airband is the Vertex VXA-700. And it's a completely terrible airband handheld. Apparently the VOR function is worthless, and the receiver quality is very poor.

questions about restoring old tube receiver

Just measure the voltage. On my DX40 with dried out caps, a cap that was supposed to be 400v, was bouncing between 200v to 500v or so. After replacement with modern equivalents, it now stays steady at about 402-405v.

Supply and demand. I guess sometimes 280k, half-broken GM trucks are sometimes in low supply, yet high demand.

    Two questions on cooling fans?

Most fans don't forcefully move enough air to cool those soviet radar tubes. You need a pretty beefy squirrel cage blower. When I was testing the blower I took out of my CRX, I ran it off 13.8v...even without the shroud, it blows a lot of air! Me personally, I prefer liquid over gas. I would...

your favorite tips for someone new to cb radio

We should really hammer that point home. DO NOT CLIP THE LIMITER Noise toys are a waste of money. If you want more power, buy an amplifier. The biggest change is from 4w to 100w. 100w to 200w will only yield +3 dB, and 100w to 400w will only yield +6 dB. 6 dB is approximately 1 s-unit...

    GROUNDING BASE ANTENNA?

RF ground is not the same as an electrical ground. You should ground your mast to a copper clad steel rod pounded in at the base. You should then run #6 AWG wire from that rod, to your electrical service grounding rod. Every 6 feet or so, you should pound in another rod. You should also...

your favorite tips for someone new to cb radio

Antenna > Radio A $50 President base station, unmodified, hooked up to a 5-el yagi will outperform a 50w export radio into a Wilson W5000. The 102" inch whip, if mounted in a good place in a permanent mount, will outperform any other mobile antenna on the market.

Trivia on Amateur Amps that had sweep tubes!?!?

Yep! ZD was a 12BY7A driver with a 6146A final. My Heathkit DX40 has a 6146A as the final...great little tube. The FT301-series was their first all solid state rigs.

    Which antenna? I'm stumped.

I don't think you'd notice too much degradation with a 102" whip on the toolbox. The radiation pattern would be skewed slightly, but the majority of the whip would still be over the roofline.

What are some of the really good obsolete HF Amp Tubes

811A is one of the greatest HF transmission tubes ever made, in my opinion. It's inexpensive, rugged, has good heat dissipation, and most importantly, it's plentiful.
