    Solar charger for VX-8DR

For maximum battery life, be sure to turn the backlight off. That 1.5w panel is probably your best bet. Modify the cigarette (ACC) attachment..cut it off, get the EDC-6 DC cable and attach it to the internal circuitry. There should be a charge controller inside the box of the solar charger to...

just got my ticket and looking for a good starter ht

The Wouxun KG-UVD1P is well liked. Be sure to get an SMA adapter, as well as SO239/PL259 adapter so you can use standard HT antennas, as well as base/mobile antennas.

    KD8NPB/M

I'll post some as I get it together. It'll only be a couple inch jumper of wire from the tuner to the antenna itself. It won't be as efficient as a screwdriver, but it'll be a lot more durable.

    2011 AIRVENTURE EAA OSHKOSH WISCONSIN

Probably! But I wouldn't look as cool in the process. Chicks dig backwards takeoffs. We'll see though, it needs an annual, but it's an LSA so it'd be cheap to do. I'd almost say it's cheaper for me to take the 2-day course, and do it myself. Plus, the strut tubes are a little crusty...

    2011 AIRVENTURE EAA OSHKOSH WISCONSIN

I might be flying in next year as KD8NPB/AM. We'll see though, I'm still trying to figure out if I can actually afford this J3 I found. :D

102" Whip for semi when parked?

I don't know semis too well, but I know a lot of them are fiberglass now? There was a HAM trucker I saw that uses a 102" whip, mounted in the center directly behind the cab. Fiberglass cab on the truck anyways, and the metal on the front of the trailer itself acts as a reflector...

1990 Honda CRX HF 225,000 miles 55 mpg 102" whip in a Hustler C31 ball, no spring MFJ-1728B 5/8 wave 2m (1/4 wave 6m) I plan to ditch the craptastic yellow fogs and replace them with some Hella 500 fog (flood-type) lights. There's a 23ch SSB Midland in there right now with a...

102" Whip for semi when parked?

Why don't you just run a 102" whip always? You may have to alter your antenna placement to avoid being over 14' tall, but they cannot be beat in terms of performance. A 1/4 wavelength of 11m (CB) is approximately 108 inches overall. The 4' firestik is approximately 48 inches in overall...

    High Tech flashlights.......

I'll stick to my Surefire. They don't break, period. My life may depend on the availability of light, so a cheap flashlight isn't a risk I can take.

Help me identify this old 3-element yagi?

Second one, you are correct. I google imaged it, I have the bottom half where it all attaches too, it's with the mast stuff they gave me...I thought it was all unimportant stuff. I think I'm missing some of the hardware still though, it looks like I'm missing some of the clamps for the...

Help me identify this old 3-element yagi?

Boom length is almost 18 feet. Here's some pictures. Neighbor has had it sitting in her basement since the early 80s. I have no idea what this is, or if it goes with.

Should both leads on a mobile amp be hooked directly to car battery?

That's your choice. Just make sure you sand the paint off wherever you're attaching the ground point to, and make sure its part of the car that is electrically bonded to the majority of the car. You may experience RFI though. Be sure to use two fuses...one within 12" of the battery...

    PSK31 Frustration

USB on all bands. If the signal is too weak, it'll garble up a lot.. I use digipan...just find a signal with a lot of red, and click your mouse on it. It'll automatically center on the signal, and begin converting digital signal to text. Also, make sure you're tuning to a PSK31 signal, and...
