Would it do any good to use one of these on the radio end of my coax just to see where I'm at, or would this give false readings. I just did the standard swr meter thing on the P500 before I put it up!

If you dig a small hole-(just about six inches deep) and fill it with water, then put your ground rod in the center of the hole and work it up and down. Keep the hole filled with water and you can sink the ground rod to depth by hand! I didn't believe it either but after setting a eight foot...

I'm running a old penetrator 500 at 36' too the the base. I had just totally rebuilt it and it's 10-8. I'm still undecided what too do about an amp. The four pill will do for now. It picked up a 70 amp Astron to run it.

Now I'm starting to wonder if the M4V is worth the possible trouble and definate expence too run on the base? The magnum 4000 just doesn't have the reach out and hammer someone power though. Don't get me wrong, three hundred watts gets me across town but I've always liked have a hammer...

I don't have a mobile set up in a mobile! I drive a Co truck with a radio only stipulation. When I first hooked it up on the base for smoke test purposes, I had a 3 watt dead key from the radio with the high low driver switch on the amp on 10 watt. Amp on low! Keyed up around 250 watt dead key...

You can't tell by the pics of the M4V but it has both the copper strap and the heavy rod over the pills-impressive!!! Another thing that bothers me with this amp, is that it doesn't have a fan! By the sounds of it, it could use one.

Your right! I had a brain fart in my other post and said it was a 6000. :blushing: Wishful thinking I guess! The 4000 does well though. I can't tell what pills are in it because the ground strap has them covered! I'm hoping to find a big enough p.s. and maybe trade my 2950DX for it...
