I don't know if this was directed at me. If it is, than I must explain. I was asked a question and answered it. I pointed out that a license is required. I let him know because I didn't think he had his license. I was right, by the way.
He responded by calling me stupid, first of all...
What got me into the hobby was when I was working for a hunting outfitter. We were guiding black bear hunts over bait. I was a bait tender. We were deep in the northern Maine forest, where there is a huge logging industry. Narrow dirt roads and big log trucks can be a bad combination. They...
I think that "generally" exports tend to not be the greatest performers on SSB. There are exceptions. I hear pretty good reports from the 257 line of Magnum for SSB performance. I have been hearing a few 955 Stryker radios that really sound good on SSB. I think that Stryker put some time...
I heard a couple guys on 27.2850 AM around Manchester. I tried giving a holler to him, 654 Silver Fox. I was bird hunting and was driving up and down mountains and in and out of valleys. Being on the move, he was just fading in and out too much for me to get a response. He was in and out for...
Been there, done that. I tried to fix my Uniden 76 by replacing the driver and final. I purchased them on Ebay. When I was done, the radio still didn't work. I sent it out to Bells CB and he put a good driver and final in. She is working now.
I think that most people, truckers and average Joes, want a combination of performance, styling, and features. But I think the styling and features are more of a catch in the market. That is what makes many of the export radios so popular. Many have the big meters, color changing Christmas...
I know it!!! When I first started hearing our neighbors, across the Atlantic, they were spitting out some really long call signs. I lost track after the 6th and 7th digit, lol. As the week went on, most of them were shortening them up. Some of the guys I was hearing on a regular basis, by...
I always hear people saying "you're off freq" to each other. What if the guy who told you that was off frequency, and it wasn't you? People are always arguing about who's off frequency and it is silly. When I get done with a contact and I hear the next person slightly off frequency from me, I...
That is so cool. I usually hear Texas, Bahamas, and Puerto Rico on a regular basis. Then the random areas of USA and Canada. But lately (the past week) I've been hearing Europe pretty regularly. Most of the time I am on my way to work and don't have time to chat, so I just listen. Work is...
If you are under a time constraint, send it to Dave at DTB Radio. Almost every radio he has repaired for me has been back to me in a little over a week. He is very good. You will have a very clean sounding radio when he is done.
I was out bird hunting today. I was about 45 miles in the woods. I decided to flip on the radio for a while. I talked to a guy in Wales from Maine, on 38 LSB. I am surprised I got through with all the traffic on the air. :thumbup1:
His response really pissed me off. I guess I could have worded it differently. I didn't really think about people that don't have a clue getting their ticket. But I still don't think I was that offensive, to deserve the response I got. And he isn't an amateur, BTW. He began bashing "HAMs"...
I got a notification from Amazon requesting an answer to a question someone had. "Can a Wilson 1000 be used on 10 meters?" I answered the question and pointed out that a license is required to operate on 10 meters. I suggested he didn't have his license, due to the nature of his question. I...
I found an ad in craigslist, a couple years ago, that listed free CB radios. I drove 6 hours round trip to pick them up. I filled the back of my truck with them. Literally over 100 radios. I figured it was worth the gas to pick them up, even if only a few worked. As it turned out, I drove 6...
The only problem with Craigslist, EBay, etc. is that many sellers have no idea about radio equipment. So many people pick things up at yard sales, estate auctions, and such and try to resell them for profit. Often times they damage them in the process of "testing" them for operation. Their...
Still haven't had time to open up the amp. Strangely, the problem has gone away. I was checking out a different mic and flipped over to SSB and things were working. I put the original mic back on and it is still working (but who knows for how long).
Radio at full power, mic gain at 1/4...
Personally, Dave has sent me back every radio in about the same manner I sent them to him. I am pretty sure he uses the same box, packing, and shipping method. That is how I've gotten all my radios back. I'll bet the people who had no packing, sent the radio out without packing.
You can...
I am curious about that statement. SWR is a measurement of the forward power compared to the reflected power, due to impedance mismatch. If you have no output, then you should read 0 SWR as there is nothing to reflect. If you are getting a reading, then the radio is producing output.
Are...
