    Another"what's it worth" thread.

Go to EBay and search your radios. Then on the left column, scroll down and there should be a refinement for "completed listings". All items with the prices shown in green are purchased items. Items with the prices listed with red are unsold. Pay attention only to the green. Or there is also...

    Beam antennas?

I really appreciate all the replies. It has given me much to consider. I may end up just buying one for simplicity. I also will give a hand at trying to build one as well for the experience and knowledge. I always need to know the how and why. I am not the kind of person who is happy just...

    radio swap

I should have just stayed out of it. I'd just hate to see someone get hurt or even shot over $30. That can very well happen when trying to prove a point by knocking on the wrong person's door. Be it him or the other guy. It just isn't worth it.

    radio swap

I understand how you feel. I am an ex infantry soldier and have felt like paying a visit or two before as well. People always are different when things are face to face. And honestly, it would make some people think twice before doing it again. But the reality is, we need to be bigger than...

    is it possible?

I was kind of wondering that myself. If you plan on using it to drive a bigger amp, I can't imagine that the higher output would be an issue because that amp should have "low, med, and high" settings. Or you could just lower the power on the radio to limit the power out of the amp. But maybe...

May be in need of a bigger alternator

I would never waste my money on that much power. I doubt I'll ever even go for an 8 pill. It was an idea, but that was all. I am actually pretty happy with my set-up as it sits. My 4 pill is getting my numbers called pretty consistently on channel 6. Even when conditions don't seem the...

May be in need of a bigger alternator

That is something I didn't take into consideration, either. I hope that with two working batteries and a decent alternator all working in conjunction, they will all share the load a little. That might help keep the alternator from getting too warm. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

May be in need of a bigger alternator

Very true. The radio alone can draw 25A. Of course it only draws that at full power. I run the radio pretty low with the amp on. Still, the radio and amp takes up a good chunk of the output of the alternator. I can get a 145A through Summit Racing for $200 but I don't think it is enough of...

May be in need of a bigger alternator

Aside from the bonding straps on all the body, I did add additional braided ground strap from the (-) battery post to the frame and also to the engine block. I didn't want any body mount bushings or motor/tranny mounts to insulate. Everything metal should be well grounded. I also used a 9"...

May be in need of a bigger alternator

I'm running a 102" and the truck is fully bonded. I soldered my own coax for the shortest runs possible. I'm using quality cable (LMR 200) with sufficient power handling. I think the antenna system is pretty good. I've spent a lot of time tweaking my install.

May be in need of a bigger alternator

Granted, my auxiliary battery shorted out and I disconnected it before it damaged the primary battery and alternator. But I was driving up the Golden Road, on my way to camp Friday night. Every time I key up and talk my headlights flicker like modulation lamps. I'm feeding my TNT 600HD...

    Beam antennas?

I may regret asking this question. I was thinking of trying to build one in the near future. I first must understand how it works. I may be over my head. Can someone explain the workings of a beam antenna? I don't know anything about them except they seem to have a lot of gain. I would...

    This is weird

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Like I said, I am pretty sure it is a proximity issue. That is a bunch of power and not a lot of room between antennas. I am just really anal about transmitting a clean signal. I preach it all the time and don't want to be hypocritical, lol.

    This is weird

Yes. But I get a break in the squelch on my scanner at 155.310 MHz when if I key up on ch 26. The radio has been out to repair 4 times between two different shops. It was explained what I am seeing on my scanner, and saw no spurs or harmonics on either of their scopes. I am sure it is just...

    This is weird

The Galaxy I have doesn't use mosfets finals. It has 2 2290s. I am happy to see 1.25:1 out of the amp. I'm ok with 1.5:1 out of the radio to the amp. I did calibrate the meter between readings. I'm not changing anything in the system with the exception of installing a low pass filter...

    why do people....

I know what it means. I used it correctly. Knowing one lacks knowledge and experience should drive one, who has it, to help. Pointing out someone's lack of knowledge and experience is no help at all. It is just being rude. Now back to the thread topic please.

    This is weird

That Galaxy is the only one that this happens on. Every other radio sees a slight increase in SWR. I have noticed that a change SWR between the amp and antenna is relative and opposite the SWR between the radio and amp. I checked this after reading a thread by the DB. I hooked a tuner up...

    This is weird

Set up: Galaxy 95t2 with the output impedence matched for amp, TNT 600HD, Dosey TR1000, 102" antenna on a hustler ball mount, spring, and 1" riser at the top of the front bedrail, directly behind the center of the cab on a Silverado 2500HD. Entire truck has been bonded with tinned copper...

    buying another radio

On the manufacturer's website, the 94HP draws a max current of 14 amps on AM and 25 amps on SSB. Ohms law doesn't specify the capability of the dash socket though.

    buying another radio

I see you already suggested the radio I was going to recommend. The Galaxy 94 HP. My only concern is if the 12V power socket in the dash will supply enough amperage to feed a 100W radio. I'd have to double check, but I imagine the draw would be about 15 amps and even more on SSB. I have...
