What's your favorite 'vintage' CB rig?

Tran 60 (Tram Diamond 60?) Browning Baron Cobra 29x Browning Sabre As for above radios, the Tram D60 is the only one of the above radios that occupies a space on my shelf, and it is definitely above average. The following I figure is just a bit to broad to rate in with the individual radios...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

On a less sarcastic note... Any testing and input which sheds further light upon this age old debate is welcome addition. However I would always be skeptical of tests such as this last one. Mainly because I've experienced first-hand how very small details can make a major difference in...

What would a period correct cb from 1970-1975 era?

I'd say the actual difference is more then likely in the Tech doing the alignment, then the fact its being done. Its pretty silly to state a 30+ year old radio cannot benefit from being serviced, regardless whether that service increases performance beyond factory specs. At the minimum the...

what NPC/RC mod looks like on a scope

Well regardless of this thread, I think Negative Peak Compression, Has its place, but just like any other Mod done to a CB, or other radio, it can, and is, abused, to the point of getting a bad reputation... If you have someone who likes to crank the snot out of the Audio, get all loud and...

what NPC/RC mod looks like on a scope

the point is, your 148GTL IS NOT doing 80 watts its pretty obvious someone is messed up somewhere.... I GUARANTEE you a 148GTL WILL not do 80 watts with a simple tune up.. NO WAY.... I very much doubt it will do half that, even with a 2030, for sure not without more extensive mods...

what NPC/RC mod looks like on a scope

Billy, it has nothing to do with you, more the mis-information and claims that were made. What was unbelievable is 80 watts from a STOCK 148GTL. And that a seasoned knowledgeable Radio Tech would do what was described. This is why I said I can't wait for your comment. This is exactly...

what NPC/RC mod looks like on a scope

Well I can personally attest to a Screaming Uniden Washington, @60 watts, and thats pushing that chassis to the wall, 17 volts on the PA. 80 real watts out of a 148, I think that belongs over in another thread.... What was it, something or other Myths? Truthfully I can't wait for Billy...

    Magnum

I sold a few back in the day, OK little amp, worked relatively well, average build quality, built by someone taking advantage of the Palomar name. If it works and your Happy with it keep it. If its the one I'm thinking of there is room for improvement, but all in all, not bad.

    Stryker 440 hp and amp

As someone with first hand experience on the Stryker let me pipe in.... It VERY MUCH depends how the Stryker has been set up The Stryker can be set two ways. 1. Variable power from minimum to maximum, Max Peak power varies somewhat linear to carrier power. 2. Peak power stays the...

What would a period correct cb from 1970-1975 era?

Well. if your looking for something to actually practically use, Courier Spartan PLL, or Gladiator PLL, if you have room, Both are available in 23 and 40 channel versions, all four are Uniden 858 chassis SSB, all of them are good radios. You will not hear many debate that. Chassis is also a...

what NPC/RC mod looks like on a scope

Why do you suppose the AM broadcast stations do it? Do you think they just want to make there CB listening audience happy? As has already been said, this IS nothing new, it has been in use for many, many years. The whole issue is proper setup, and utilization.
