Opinions on THE best mobile radio for all arround use. PERIOD!

If your actually looking for something better, why not sample the waters in the Ham Radio field. I recently bought a kenwood TS-480 and it makes one helluva mobile. Surprisingly it works pretty well on AM to. Other then going with a decent quality HF Radio, your probably just as far along...

What would a period correct cb from 1970-1975 era?

There were a few Pace radios which I didn't mind, though not my first choice. As an "old guy" who did alot with the hobby back-in-the-Day, I was lucky to have actually owned about 90% of the CB radios at one time or another, got to stick my fingers in them as well:tongue_smilie...

WANTED.....COBRA 148 GTL DX or SUPERSTAR 360FM CHROME BEZELS

Watch the second link, thats a Front Mic.... Yea you will have a tough time with an original.... the 3900 ones work ok, a bit on the cheapie side.... Obviously the front mic in the second link is about useless..... Only real practical choice is the 3900 bezel, or watch for NOS...

What would a period correct cb from 1970-1975 era?

If I had to choose a radio to represent that time it would have to be a Midland, they were probably a good part of why CB was, what it was... Midland 13-888 was quite a radio back in the day, or if you want something a bit smaller the 13-882C, both would be period correct, both are good...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

Well everyone can accept the "Test" results in the manner they see fit. Hearing one station better on SSB? LOL, that can be as little difference as turning up the Mic gain, hell I can literally double my audible loudness just by turning my processor on my Kenwood on, and still remain about...

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

We don't even have accurate RF output measurement, no idea what is in-between each station, Sideband as the test mode? judging by loudness? come on... Nice effort but sorry, as I said WAY to many variables, possibilities for outside factors to effect testing... ETC....

Avanti Sigma4: An alternative view point

not a valid test at all, way to many variables.....

How warm to keep the shack

50 should be fine, just keep an eye out for condensation, that would be my only concern, pretty much depends on humidity. Depending on the gear I'd probably leave it warm up a bit before operating..

    windows 7 upgrade,dont do it

A Snack'N'Toss is just glorified linux, on an Intel based PC with some extra firmware, But I have retired my old XP box to Snow Leopard, it isn't bad but the software just isn't there....

    windows 7 upgrade,dont do it

My PC boots to the desktop in 27 seconds under 7, XP takes 30, I'm sure I could shave a good 5 seconds off both if I took the time to optimize... Once I get my Solid State Drive I've heard 7 will boot in just a few seconds. This is with a 1TB WD drive.

    Windows 7 "God Mode"

Yea I've heard upgrade can be troublesome, I never do upgrades, always do clean installs, you save yourself from potential issues most of the time... I've got my PC set up to Dual Boot, Windows XP, and Windows 7, mainly because I run some older software that won't run under 7... It takes...

    Windows 7 "God Mode"

Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "GodMode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder. Step 1: Right click. Step 2: Click create folder...

Now i know why people love the Cobra 2000 GTL

Nice find, but 3-400 is a bit optimistic... if you watch you can get one in the 150-200 range, not saying haven't seen them go for that, just saying you can still get one reasonable if you watch a bit...

    amp newbie

To answer your question, No the Amplifier definitely will not work on CB. You should first concentrate on antenna systems. Are your antennas properly tuned? What are you using for a base antenna? Optimizing antennas would probably be the most beneficial first step.

    Browning Baron...your thoughts?

Not the most capable chassis ever made... Has more collector value then it has practical. Had a few years ago, transmit was average, receive not much better. If it were mine I would sell it to a collector, and replace it with a 148GTL/Grant XL and pocket the difference. Either way its...
