When i think of all the great equipment I had for CBs years ago,,, Probably sold at a big loss... Of course, I am buying it all again,,, at a big loss. What have I learned??
Thanks,, I just might. I ordered a converter from 4 pin to realistic 5 pin. When it comes in I will see if it works but, might ping you for any potential sales.
How do you end up with "few dozen of the mics" ?
Just an update on the amplified speaker noise. I am now using a Dipole and it is further away from the speakers (up in the attic) and, I can use the amplified speakers again. Not sure what I am going to do with the CB speaker I ordered when it comes in... I guess it will look good with my CB...
Thanks. Interesting feature... I will try it some time soon.
I dont think I have ever used the PA feature on any CB but, its on all CBs.
I have seen it used in movies like The Blues Brothers with an Air Raid Siren as a speaker but,
never found a use myself.
As part of my latest CB addiction I picked up and old (but nice looking) Realistic TRC-432 base CB radio. Its a pretty straight forward radio with one exception.
Does anyone know what the "Mon" is on the CB/PA/Mon switch ?
Owners manual doesn't describe it... cant find on web searches.
I dont...
I hope this isnt off topic too much but, your picture in the last post shows a coil of coax cable at the antenna. I believe I remember someone posting that there are advantages to this. In your opinion, is this advantageous ? If so, how ? Thanks in advance.
WOW,, those are nicer attic installs than I did. I put my dipole in the attic with 1x1 wood poles (left over from last fence repairs) so that I can move the tips. Without any changes to the wire lengths SWR is way down 1.2 to 1.5 range. I guess getting the antenna away from wires and metal was a...
Good point ,, I think this first dipole will be CB only and I do have attic room. Thanks for keeping my eyes on the potential of future radio/antenna growth.
Thanks everyone.
I will provide all the detail the next time i set it up. I admit that the initial assessment was done with antenna strung across my bedroom (dont laugh too loud,, RF exposure?). I plan on putting it in the attic. My physical limitations mean I will have to arrange a PVC pipe...
So SWR high especially on ch 40, says to me that I need to shorten antenna. Do I 1) shorten the center feed side or the ground side ? 2) do i shorten both at the same time ? Thanks in advance for any help provided.
Some day I should try Ham Radio. I do enjoy the challenges that come with CB like incredibly long antennas. I also like the memories. I do wish there were more CB-ers around here. It is quiet most of the time... I guess that means I need more antenna.
When you were driving truck, did you drive...
I hear yea.. I got premature old with a spinal injury (on duty). Shooting and radio do help pass the time,,, if my wife and bank account will hold out.
The height thing was proven to me as I also bought (its getting addictive to buy cb stuff)
a 4watt walkie talkie and, using it upstairs in my house it picks up MUCH more than at ground level. I now have Walkie + Mobile + base radios. Um, is this cb buying becoming a problem?
S&W356,,, NICE name BTW.,, Kinda a 9mm guy myself. I love your "Despite...." rant,, I agree.. I have been badly injured in the Army however, Dont fawk with papa.
All great points .. Thanks all.
I just ordered another CB external speaker.
I intend for the dipole to go outside but, it will most likely be used from inside at first.
CBs are proving to be fun even if its just setting them up.
Thanks for all the help.
I am really encouraged to find an active radio site like this.
And, nomadradio, thank you for your support and for your thanks.
