I can't help but think when I look at my radio and the meter can measure up to 80+ watts yet the PEP of SSB is 30 almost
right to the exact number when testing on my scope and proper watt meter into a dummy load.
I've seen a few people on youtube that have the same radio and somehow are pushing...
Was thinking about freebanding on 27.700 with SSTV images to see if anyone logs it but not sure if that
is even popular in the US?
I hang on the channel sometimes but rarely hear anything except LSB voice chatter.
Also not real sure if 30 watts SSB into a A99 clone antenna is even worth the shot...
Well this is ridiculous
Had the 1498 up for almost exactly a year and suddenly yesterday went to turn on the radio only to hear
silence. At first I thought it was my radio so adjusted squelch and then tried transmitting only to see my
SWR was deep in the red.
I was hoping it was just my...
Why should coax cable length matter?
I suspect those who install these antennas either have great results or bad because of coax length. My clone antenna (Tram 1498) is so inconsistent in length of coax and antenna length setting and height. I realize this is part of the comedy and real life...
After I put up my new A-99 clone antenna on my 20' of tower and mounted directly on top the tower (no isolation) I have a decent SWR of around 1.15 in the middle of the CB band, and about 1.2 on ch1 and ch40.
Though this is great I noticed something very odd..
When my 6' ladder is propped up...
I got to wondering if anyone has tried the A99 or IMAX2000 or really any variation of these end-fed dipole antennas and if a choke at the end helped or not?
Also for those who tried using them with or without did it affect your tuning and where SWR is lowest?
I got to thinking how a choke...
Got myself a Tram 1498 which is basically a much cheaper clone of the Antron A-99. Basic end-fed dipole in a fiberglass stick.
Was happy to see it arrived so fast but as soon as I started looking at all the hardware I noticed it was missing the allen key adjustment screw to tighten the end whip...
Story time...
Well propagation here is crap now that it's the dark time of year for CB skip so it got me thinking about the good old times when skip was at its peak.
This reminded me of a childhood experience which stuck with me when the 11 year solar cycle was at its peak and skip was crazy...
So I have built a few match boxes using toroids to convert the 50ohm to the thousands of ohms required for the end fed dipole and they work well, ... actually better than just well lol.
What I am curious about is how to calculate how to do the same thing using an open air coil instead of on a...
Just thought I would share this simple two tone roger beep circuit I built and decided to rig into an old radio of mine.
It works perfectly and produces two tones, first one higher in pitch than the other.
I know some people have strong feelings against roger beeps and other noise toys but...
Hi all.
I have a Teaberry Five-by-Five that I have been playing with for some time and there is one thing about it that annoys the heck out of me.
When I unkey with the stock mic quickly there is a light pop sound in the speaker upon going back to receive.
When releasing the PTT button...
End Fed Half Wave Antenna
I built a simple 8:1 balun out of a ferrite rod to feed the end of a half wave resonate wire and it works fantastic as far as I can tell.
The secondary coil has the ground riding side open and needs nothing extra to excite the hot side going to the end fed wire in...
