Hi Eddie, (Wolf) Hey could you fill me in on the difference of the function of the smaller matching ring on the Maco vs the larger ring on the Avanti Sigma 5/8, and what Avanti is doing differently utilizing the inner coil? What would be required for lengthening the Maco from the stock...

    ICOM 746 PRO

Sounds like someone may have removed the 6kC AM filter.

Jody, I'd like to add to that, during the first year I owned my Penetrator I was told the Avanti Sigma 5/8 was a better antenna so I bought one and tried it against the Penetrator. I saw a tenth of a needle width difference between them on receive and everyone else saw the same...

    - Makes me wonder about quality control or how the latest product would compare to earlier runs. When I did my test between the two I had no bias nor knowledge of what to expect in the real world as I had been out of radio for quite a number of years and had never tried an IMAX. I didn't...

One other thought, SARGE, You may want to use some nterlocking-loop ceramic iinsulators at 106" down the top guy wires to add 1/4 wave radials as a counterpoise, which should lower your radiation angle. If there were a way to add a couple of eyelet bolts near the top mounting U-bolt on the...

Survivalist need ham rig what do we need?

Hello Bill, I have a friend with an FT-897D who is very pleased with it, after it has been back to Yaesu TWICE for re-alignment, that is. Now it's a sweetheart of a rig. It sits next to his iCOM IC-751A which is often still used as a reference standard for receiver testing...

Hi Eddie, That's a very cool offer, I would absolutely get a kick out of being a guinea pig. I take it this is a prototype you're looking to begin marketing? - It sounds like it should also be an excellent receiving omni with that much capture area... you bet, I'm sure there would be a...

Yep, that's what my friend said, that it was made in Italy. I love those allen tightened barrelled junction clamps, I'd like to see something of that level of overbuild available today but I bet it would cost as much as the Coily!! I also remember we had to lengthen it by...

Hey, no worries and you know, I had mentioned two different personal experiences regarding the A-99, maybe it sounded like it was only one. I tested an A-99 against my Penetrator and saw ~3.5 S-units drop on both ends, but what I believe you're referring to is the guy in the hills above...

Hey, no problem. We all have to take a 2nd glance sometimes. I'm sure by 'changes' you meant the additional info I gave you in answer to your query. It's no trouble at all to offer additional clarification when asked. :) 73

Hello again Marconi What did you mean by; "...even if it does not change one fact about the signals reported"? - I'm not sure I'm clear on the meaning of your comment. Jay in the Mohave is about the only guy I've heard of who is associated with that area, that's about a 7-8 hour drive...

    wolf radio antennas

Hello Marconi. That was actually not a test, it was a guy who was always using a Skipper300 and we were used to his consistent signal (S-5) from a mountain community rather distant for many of us. He liked to be the 'big dog' in his area. Next thing we knew he was S-9 and really wreaking...

Whoa, ease up a bit. I replied to a positive post in a positive way, but not to get grenades lobbed over my way by the guy who's product I'm giving kudos... Am I missing something here? Eddie, we all have bad days, and my apologies to you and anyone else here on the forum if I've come...

    AR-144

I absolutely agree, I recently traded a nice old Taiwanese 148GTL for the 146 I now have and it is MUCH more frequency stable with clearer, crisper audio on SSB. Though NOT as good an AM rig as the 148.

WOW, +3 S-units! - At 5dB per S-unit that's right about +15dB over his IMAX ...!!! That also equates to approximately 34 times the Effective Radiated Power over an IMAX!! Now, I would expect either that specific contact is far enough away to take advantage of a much lower radiation angle...
