An answer to your questions. Ok, to answer the question of converting the vertical to a dipole, it is pretty easy. Experimental Question?
I own a MFJ-1796, which I converted to a horizontal dipole, and stuck it up in the attic. (Live in an HOA) I also have a FTD-20 and a OCFD in the attic.
