    Yeticom Optima MK3 Mobile

Turbo T, I just checked in on this thread. I also have a 04 Tacoma and an Optima. Can you post a picture or two of your install. I contemplated trying to remote the display and controls. But with over 37 connections and some data signals it probably would not have worked.

Help making this calculating SWR meter?

The W2 is too big to fit on the dashboard but the W1 mini-module will do nicely. http://www.elecraft.com/mini_module_kits/mini_modules.htm Thank you much.

Help making this calculating SWR meter?

Hello, I plan I making this 'calculating SWR meter' http://www.qrp4u.de/docs/en/swr_meter/ I will be using it with my mobile export radio (Optima Mk3) that does not have a built in SWR meter. I was considering a MFJ 925 auto tuner because it has an audio high SWR warning. I have since decided...

Auto antenna tuner with a mobile export?

I really appreciate everybody's thoughtful answers. They have been quite helpful about selecting an antenna tuner and I learned a few things about antennas also. I'm taking my General test this Saturday so every little bit is welcome. I'm thinking I'll go with fourstringburn and w9cll's advice...

Auto antenna tuner with a mobile export?

That's a great price but it's too big to fit in my dash area to be operated. Plus I would need to find room for SWR meter. I called SGC and they said the SG-237 could hand 50 watts FM but some component would get pretty hot after a half hour of transmit. Not a problem there but at $300 I'd...

Auto antenna tuner with a mobile export?

I appreciate the suggestion and that is a real nice tuner. It looks perfect for mounting under the seat but it may not take the power and it's outside my budget. Thanks anyways.

Auto antenna tuner with a mobile export?

I'm running 150 watts on SSB and up to 50 watts on FM. I would like to run a manual tuner but there is very little available dash space in my truck. I have just enough space for the ICOM IC2730A I've been eyeballing for awhile. I've looked at the LDG AT-200ProII and seems to be of better...

Auto antenna tuner with a mobile export?

Hello again, Another question since you guys are so helpful. I'm thinking about installing a MFJ 925 auto tuner in my mobile rig. It's just that money is so limited that I want to be sure it is a good idea. Here some pictures of the current antenna setup I have. This is the Procomm antenna for...

    CTCSS Reverse Burst?

This is how the manufacture of the tone encoder said to set the tone level. Find the middle were it just triggers the repeater or can be heard by the listener. I'll just wait till I have my General and see how it goes. If all else fails the guy at Radio shop said he'd align it for $40. I have a...

    CTCSS Reverse Burst?

I did a few measurements with the o'scope. I measured the audio signal at the FM Mod pot while saying 'check-check-check'. I measure a max of 1.5V Pk-Pk. Originally the CTCSS tone was set to .5V Pk-Pk on the above video. So I adjusted it down to 150mV (10% of 1.5V). Does this sound right?

    CTCSS Reverse Burst?

Well I thought I had this setup just right and all was good. 10 meter repeater audio sounds great and was able to 'kerchak' the repeater once, but today I heard some 10meter USB voice and it sounds terrible. See short video: What I don't show on the video is the CTCSS tone distortion at the...

    CTCSS Reverse Burst?

Thanks, I think I'll need it. The section on digital modes is kind of a blur.

    CTCSS Reverse Burst?

Good news, I'll setup the simple way first. If there are problems I can set up later with a reverse burst. Now the harder part is getting my General so I can use it :) Not that I think many people will need a CTCSS on an export radio but here are a few pics on this project. These mods are on a...

    CTCSS Reverse Burst?

I'm almost finished installing a CTCSS encoder module in my Optima Mk3. I'm hoping it will let me connect to the 10m band of the N6Lxx repeater system here in my area. The CTCSS module can be setup for a simple CTCSS tone or CTCSS with reverse burst. I have googled the N6LIZ repeater and have...

Help reading morse code of a HF beacon?

In a decision that I have regretted for the last year and a half is I have a Windows 8 Phone and of course there is no such app for me. Thanks for the suggestion anyways :)

What is better, one dual band 2m/70cm antenna or two singles?

For you guys running mag mounts, how are routing the coax cable into the vehicle? When I've seen them on road the cable is usually in a door jam and has a kink in it. Doesn't a kink or a collapse of a coax cause loss? Are you use a mag mount as a permanent mount? I herd they can be abrasive to...

What is better, one dual band 2m/70cm antenna or two singles?

Thanks for the good suggestions. The Comet CA-2x4SRB sure is a cool looking antenna. I probably would not have considered it because it looks kind of 'bling' but it seems like the way to go. Are you guys running the Comet with the optional spring? I've never used a NMO mount before. Could it...

What is better, one dual band 2m/70cm antenna or two singles?

Hope this isn't a question that has not been asked before (yes I tried a search). I'm close to getting my first mobile dual band transceiver. Pretty much narrowed it down to a ICOM IC-2730A but am considering the Yaesa FT-8900 for 6 meters. The radio will be in a lifted 4x4 truck so tree strikes...

Help reading morse code of a HF beacon?

Ahh...thanks for clearing that up. I was just about to send a email to Yeticom to see if they can help me fix the "problem". I see I'm at the point were I know just enough to be dangerous LOL. But I'm having fun learning about this stuff. Probably an after effect of 5 years on an aircraft...
