Yep I get that. I mostly tinker with radios and antennas. Used to go do the portable and mountain top stuff alot . I've made some pretty good 2m ssb contacts but 6m has always eluded me.
It's still a good prop tool. If the band isn't open ft8 won't work. Nobody is asking you to embrace it. And contrary to popular belief it's not a low power mode either.
I listen for it to see if the bands are open.
If you don't hear ft8 on 6m you don't have a fart in the dark making a phone...
As exciting as cw. I listen for the ft8 to see when the band is open. Unfortunately all the Hams these days do ft8 more than any other mode. Ft8 is a good propagation tool.
It uses a 5mhz pto vfo.to mix the frequency. I think it still depends alot on the xtal for each band. So really you could connect a dds vfo to the xtal socket. It drifty, doesn't have am. The rx us nice. It's a "neat" usa made 80s radio without general coverage.
I might lose my Xtra license...
It works to to 26.6 . I was listening to stations on 26.555lsb in south America today. It loses lock long before it gets very low in the band. It's worth using it in the 29mhz spot and then I can order a 12.8mhz for the 29.5 spot . That's what's available unless I want to do something creative...
I'll look through my box of xtals. Is Ken's still really selling xtals? There are oscillator modules you can buy in lieu of a crystal like tcxo modules sort of
According to them this radio was never mars cap capable. The company was bought by a douchebag who also bought alpha. He was talking stupid to people on a forum about the company's status. He's just a rich wing nutt with a attitude problem. So now days it's pretty much done. There will be no...
I've never dealt with a pto tuned radio. It has a pretty nice rx. Definitely can't used 29.5 mhz since it has no fm capabilities.
So that would be fine with me.
Very quiet rx but does drift per spec at 200hz per hour.
I have a corsair ii. I want to unlock it for 11m. It's not general coverage. There's 4 10m positions. It has only cw and ssb so I don't see why it has the 29.5mhz positions since no FM
If anyone knows how let me know.
The 991a does something similar out the box. I forgot what its call, but it's cw center frequency. It shifts from ssb to cw until you turn off that thing in the menu. I think my 891 did the same thing.
Here's a video of how mine was modded when I got it. This might show if yours is done...
im pretty sure most straight up cbers arent looking for a ft102.
For the cost its not worth it, however O dont think you have any info we dont already know about. Your secret is safe with me.
Ive got a malcolmized 102 and a second one. Both have 11m but For cb I prefer a uniden grant or 148...
