I have a Cobra 142gtl with no audio on AM transmit but it does have audio on SSB transmit. My guess is I overdrove the Darlington pair direct injecting it years ago maybe? Would that take away my audio on SSB, too, though? just trying to think what I fried. Any help would be appreciated.
i just feel like a soldered connection is better than two points only touching. Not sure about this "JoGunn". im just a hobbyist. i dont claim to know it all or know better than others.
It's not that I don't understand SWR or reflect or impedance, I'm just a perfectionist I guess. I like to see an antenna as close to perfect as i can (and coax). Maybe it just eases my mind to see a 1:1 match. Thanks for all your guys input.
direct fed at the match: coax is directly soldered...
Absolutely! 1.5:1 is unacceptable to me. Too much reflect that can damage my equipment.
Well i feel stupid. It was a bad jumper. Sorry guys and thanks for all of your help!

It's a Hy-Gain Super Penetrator 500 but the coax is fed at the match directly. Same location that the SO-239 was connected. Below Ch.1 the SWR starts climbing to about a 1.9:1. Same with above Ch.40. stays around 1.5:1 on the regular 40. All my grounds are good. No power lines or anything around...
ah!!! i see. i will do that. Thanks. What able input tune? how do i change that? the plans did not include any variable cap. also, do my combiner and splitter look like they are wound right? ive never made them before.
Thanks for the quick reply! i looked over my schematics and didnt see anything different. that doesnt say much though since ive never built an amp before. could you explain a little more please? im attaching the schematics.
Let me say first of all, I’m no tech. I don’t claim to be. I’m a hobbiest with an interest in modifying and building. This is the first amp protect I’ve ever taken on. I built this 16 pill amp from the plans found on this forum. They are the exact plans that I’ve found on other forums. The only...
The only thing i'm getting confused about on the 16 pill plans is the lack of a variable cap for the input. How do you tune the input? i built the amp and first key blew the resistors on the teflon wire on the output transformers. any one have any info that could possibly help me out?
I use a preamp when talking distant (non-skip). Helps me out a lot. Not sure why you think it is appropriate to tell someone who is just trying to share some good info that the idea is "stupid".
