I use a 4 element for DX. The antenna works great. Don't plan to sell anything.

To be honest, I just wanted solid equipment. I looked at Texas stars and other cheaper options. Nah, better to spend the money and be done. The 7300 and 80B have been ROCK SOLID for me. Very happy with the setup. I also plan to get my general soon.

My "Max 2000" after some tuning. Yes, I did lengthen the overall length to 24' 4". So I added a total of 9 inches to the top whip. Works pretty good for a (1/2) wave...

The Imax is 5/8 wave....period. My tape measure doesn't lie.

I ended up going with an Icom 7300 and an Ameritron AL-80B. I'm happy!

I take it you are not a 811A fan?

Interesting. I find the Anytone to be fairly stable and clean. Maybe not "kenwood" clean but it isn't bad. I had a 570D and nobody has noticed a difference between the two.

That is a big part of the reason I have been looking into Ameritron.

I like the idea of either. DX1600 definetly has ease of use and the Ameritron having more options. Sounds like I can't really go wrong with either. Ameritron is back ordered until who knows when. I have been looking for used amps. Pretty few and far between. I must not be looking in the right...

How do you feel about the new (fake) 2879's in the new texas stars? Are they ok at 13v with "reasonable" drive? I hear mixed reviews.

Yes those are nice amps. I just talk with a local group on 27.335 lowerside. Good clean group of guys. I just need a few extra Ws in the wire to get to the stations over the mountain. The problem is not everyone in our group has horizontal beams (including myself). So I figured a few extra clean...

I agree it is overkill but I don't want to drive it hard. I might consider the 500v. Run it at 400 with a fan. Hope it lasts.

I am also leaning towards a higher end Ameritron. How do you feel about the AL-80B?
