A while back, I picked up a 2547 that basically didn't work for $15. After replacing parts, I have it rx/tx on AM. It will tx on sideband, but no receive. It has upper and lower channels and a 10k switch. The limiter is cut, so I'll have to put that back in because sideband tx is muffled. I...
Hi Mike,
Q55 which looks like the voltage regulator has 13.1V coming in and 6.86V on the center pin not transmitting and 6.62V transmitting. That should be 8V, shouldn't it?
Thanks,
Stuart
Howdy,
A friend brought me a Stryker 655 that doesn't transmit. He was told it needed finals. He bought IRF520N finals for it. I 'checked it and it had no transmit or modulation, so I changed all 4 mosfets. So, It still doesn't transmit. I can turn the AM power down and get it to key up and...
Thanks for the help! Next question… How much drive will this thing take? Not that I’m going to drive it that hard.. Tubes aren’t cheap! I’m just curious.. I tried it with a Grant LT and Galaxy 86V on am.. It doesn’t seem to swing very much.. I may not have it tuned right… It has a knob on the...
Hi Nomad,
Thank you for the suggestion! I was wondering if one end would work or both. I will do both, hopefully this weekend. Does the wire size matter when grounding?

Howdy,
Yes, its easy to work on. This one is the first I've really messed with. I've looked in a Varmint and a Swinger 105 and neither of those look very easy to work on...
Thanks Nomad! Without your board, it would have been a lot more difficult! I appreciate all the help all of you have given with this project. It was a great learning experience! I definitely like getting help when I have questions instead of being told to send it to a tech..
Thanks everyone!
Just an update on the POW… After replacing the 1000uf cap and the diode, I have 12v and the amp keys now.. I still have the 220uf caps to replace and to ground the coax, but this one is back alive! Thanks for all the advice!
Good morning!
That makes since. I didnt see anything that would have high enough drive to fry it when I picked it up. I had assumed he was running it with the Browning.
Good morning!,
I read somewhere that these were made by a former Maco employee. It didn't list a name, but that would make since as to why they are similar to a Maco.

Hi Shockwave,
Thanks! I'll ground the shielding on the coax and put the new tube in the driver section. The tubes are all M2057, some are maco and some are GE, but it was that way when I got it.
Hi Linearone,
I feel your pain! Ive had a couple of radios really frustrating me here lately. Both are galaxies.. lol! A friend of mine encouraged me to mess with this amp. I've had it for around a year or so and its been a big paper weight, so with his help, I've gotten this far. Now...
Good morning Nomad,
Thank you for the reply! I replaced the blue caps. One of the originals from 1978 let the smoke out. Yes the cap beside them is a 1000uf cap that puked its guts, too. It did that after replacing the big caps while I was testing. I will replace the diode going to that...
Good morning Shockwave,
Thank you for all the good advice! I was wondering about the coax, also if you notice, there are red wires from the center pins of the 259 connectors to the relay. Shouldn't these be shielded or coax with shield grounded? In nomads post below he recommended replacing...
Hi Shockwave,
Actually that cap let the smoke out.. I disconnected it to see if there were any other issues besides the keying circuit.. I have a replacement on order.. There is a diode between the heater circuit and where that cap is hooked up.. Would that and the cap rectify AC to DC? The big...
Thanks Nomad! Do I need to change the relay? I hit it with 12v dc and it activated.. I was thinking about a rectifier.. I did pull power from the heater circuit, since that’s what it looks like the original builder did.. This one has M2057 tubes in it.. You are right about the lack of info...
