Cool thread. We've been experimenting with different laminents for the Cobra 29 modulation trasformer. The one pictured is a nickel core version. Although the lams are smaller than stock ones, they are actually heavier.
It's sounds quite a bit better than the stock version and with the...
I wonder if this type of mod can also get to the "A" channels with out destroying the 455khz or drifting all over the place??
I hope the OP posts how you do the mod. I fear, without trying it, that this mod is roughly like trying to pick up a turd by the clean end.
I've got a fresh used 29...
My Cobra 1000 has kinda that mod. Where a 10.695 oscillator replaced the 10.24 on TX, a "slideable" 5mhz oscillator was used in place of the 15.36. It works great but the drawback is the channels don't line up with the channel selector but a freq counter can be added like one of those 11 dollar...
Gosh, I had pretty good luck with the 13n10 and biasing it with a small voltage regulator on a "parts only" Cobra 29 I bought off ebay. 8 watts carrier swing to about 39 watts.
My wife, however, was totally unimpressed so I told her to use the broom she flew in on to sweep up the kitchen...
10 Meters is still a good place for AM. There's a couple of us from the local ham club who converted AM only CBs to 10. The pic I've posted is when we initially got my Cobra 1000 in the 10m band. I've had a blast with it so far.

Hi Nomadradio. The TX 10.695 makes up for the "split" requirement (at least until my mind anyway, lol). I mean feeding a 16.270 signal would be 26.965 (16.270 +10.695 = 26.965 on TX and 26.965 - 16.270 = 10.695 - 10.240 = 455) . I guess it means that one of those cheapie freq counters would work...
I was thinking of a varactor tuned vfo with some kinda temp compensation. Like 4.5 maz - 5.5. Then mix with 11 mhz crystal oscillator. Keep the 10.24 for rx and add new TX oscillator 10.695.
I would think the cheap $hit eBay freq counter would work because now only one frequency from the vfo...
Is it permissible to change the TX 10.240 to 10.695 and inject your own ~16mhz signal?
On paper it looks as if it would be one freq for both TX and rx. Then a freq counter could be added.
