They looked cool. Had a friend who had one. Seemed to work okay but a couple of the scales were out of calibration. Never saw inside it but assume it had adjustment pots and could have been recalibrated so different scales would show the same reading.
lol .... I didn't say Full Legal Limit. "Full Power" home station on VHF/UHF generally refers to running a full power mobile radio rather than a handie talkie.
Hi Guitar. You didn't mention wanting to use one of these clips hold-downs in your opening post. No problem. Do as Brandon suggested and braze on a little ball of brass (brass brazing rod) with a torch. Brass will readily stick to stainless (use flux).
Or attach one of these guys. The fitting...
What you're suggesting should work but - if you're using this antenna to transmit on ..... you could do a heckofalot better with practically anything else. Discones have NO Gain on any frequency and are mainly used as Receive-Only antennas like for scanners.
Realize this is a bit late but just thought of it. Enormous disaster relief effort going on in North Carolina being very much headed up by hams and many others. They are using the Mount Mitchell repeater (6,800 ft) 145.190 that has a reach into 5 states. Vicki Carnes, AD3I is doing Yeoman's Work...
You should be fine at that height. Otherwise a bit sorry to hear that you have to go to so much trouble, work and expense just to put a vertical on it. Most guys save the tower headache for a big beam.
I'm going to call out the North Georgia GMRS Group here for coming off as stiff and unfriendly - in this one regard - being able to enjoy the Godly privilege of participating in their Facebook Group. I saw that they had a FBG and asked to join. They did not readily state on the front page or on...
The local GMRS folks have me thinking about joining. In my area, they have built a Linked Network that covers 1/3 of a large state. Corner to corner is at least 150 miles maybe 175. That's an impressive stretch to be able to communicate going in on your nearest repeater with an HT .... and talk...
Loops are my favorite. Yes they ARE quiet antennas being a Current-Point type. Your shape has the 4th lowest gain going down the list.
Best gain: Circular
2nd: Square
3rd: Rectangular
4th: Triangular.
.
80 meters for me always came in around 255 feet. Be very careful making a 160. Doubling the...
