I am going to get some whips soon. The car i have is a 1989 Ford Thunder Bird. (AKA P.O.S)What my question is would i be able to put 2 whips on the car? I already have some holes drilled out. One would be smack dab in the middle of the hood and one would be on the trunk. Would both of them help me get out better? And recive better? Need to know ASAP so i can get this planned out and be ready to go!

The way i under stand it is that a setup like that is something like a mobile beam. Most of the people that run a setup like that does so for competition so im not sure if you would gain anything in day to day use unless comp is what your going for. They say that if you are pointing at the person your trying to talk to you will be stronger with that setup but i don't know if the receive is any better.I think i would just use one whip(102 steel whip),i do and have no problem talking when ever or where ever i want to.But the only way you will know for sure is to try it,better to try and see if it works for you rather than taking someone else's word that it wont.Good luck!

PS......I think you are to put one whip on the very front of the car and the other one on the rear. Its supposed to be a certain amount of distance between the two antennas, not sure how much.

If he can put it in the center of the roof, that's the best place for it. Using two antennas is usually done in a manner called co-phasing. The spacing needs to be done properly and the coax types and lengths become important. If you're not co-phasing them, then you're making something like a mobile beam. This would be directional for both TX and RX. That's usually only done for competition purposes. Really one whip in the center of the roof is all you need and will work great. If you can't do the roof, then the trunk will work also. The primary reason for putting it on the roof is that the roof acts as shielding between the RF and your body. RF radiation isn't the healthiest thing for you. It also presents the antenna with a nice fairly uniform groundplane.

K guys thanks for the replys. What i think im gonna do is order 2 or 3 whips. But only use on. Never know when your gonna need another one. Just in cas. Would a wilson 1000 mount work for a whip? Or would i have to buy a spring?
