As CK said, "sinister" refers to the left side. There's a lot of folk etymology out there explaining that, and originally, the word didn't have the ... wait for it ... SINISTER overtones that it does today.  The opposite of sinister is another Latin word: "dexter".  To be "ambidextrous" literally means "having both right hands".


Then there's "ambidextrose", meaning everything is sweet.
