106 inch (4 inch spring) fiberglass tapper with braided silver in the center

he guys , looking for a little help / knowledge . New to radios ( building,learning as I go my first mobile set up . Cobra 29LX with little wil first items I got . Then a bunch of grounding straps ( drive all over country in a HD 2500 fiberglass service bed service truck. So not getting what I want out of the Wilson little . So I have been looking for something better, but. I came across this thing it was my grandfathers , it is 106 inches long so that's 102 taperd fiberglass shaft and a 4 inch spring. So it's its 106 long with 4 inch spring and here is the kicker it's got a small split at the end and I was very curious as to how fiberglass has continuity so I looked in side to find the entire length has a piece of fine braided (three stran) silver wire as to what percent ? I would guess .925
Any body know about this antenna I really want to use it on my rig ( it was my papaws) I have ? How where do I mount it what other components will I need .

just my opinion here,,, the "little Wil" Wilson antenna you have isn't much of an antenna at all,,, get yourself a Wilson 1000 or 5000 and you will see night and day difference,, but the Wilson line isn't much for lasting quality these days,,, if you want an antenna to last for years and years get a sirio 5000 and call it a day

the 102" whips are about as good as you can get for mobile use, but there is a catch, they need to be mounted optimum to work good and most applications that just isn't possible with the 102 length so you end up mounting it somewhere that isn't really optimal,,,, where as a sirio 5000 is just long enough to be mounted optimal on most vehicles and will perform great.

Does it have "WONDERSHAFT" printed in the chrome on the end? If so I think it's a Francis Amazer.
I'd definitely lose the spring, I've had nothing but trouble with springs in the past.

that fiberglass 102 whip has a little wire running up the middle of it buried in the FG . the fiberglass has no continuity , it just keeps the wire erect and protects it some what . similar but different to how the A99 and 2000 it's just a wire inside but the 99/2000 have a tuning network at the bottom and is closed circuit and the mobile will have a vehicle under it to act as a counterpoise .
