I'm up in Miami for a few days where I'm using a simple 1/4 wave ground plane base that uses a Workman hub with a single 102" whip for a vertical radiator and three downward sloping 102" whips. Using an almost-40-year-old TRC 490 base with an equally old Turner Super-Sidekick, this back-to-basics 101 little rig was making contacts with most of the southeastern U.S. including Virginia, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina.
Rick,
Where did you purchase that hub? I’ve looked everywhere for one.
I plan on using a 102” steel whip for the vertical and three 4’ tunable Firestiks for the radials. My pole isn’t tall enough for 102” radials.
Thanks,
Jim
I've been testing out the Sirio Boomerang antenna the last couple of weeks as part of a compact antenna options video I'm working on - it's the aluminum one with a single radial. Very surprised in the results. Similar to a 102" whip style homebrew antenna but super lightweight and surprisingly SWR is low all the way up to 28.000 where it creeps up to 1.5. Made DX contacts with it at 10 foot height and can easily talk 15-20 miles with a S5-S7 on locals barefoot. Doesn't hear as well as my Gainmaster but TX isn't bad.
I have a 271 reefer car generator. Never started it with a strap, though.Had a DD generator years ago in a far off land that we started with a cargo strap and a HMMWV.
Sounds like a Cheech and Chong mobile.I have a 271 reefer car generator
