11 meter is very quiet?

The thing with a lot of these folks is that they’re hanging out there hoping for international DX. Because someone told them they heard Italy, France, what have you.
But jaw-jacking on 555, with foul language, isn’t like to yield a bunch of international contacts. It’s more likely to get you ignored.
Seperately, there’s a bunch of folks no so mean-spirited, but just don’t know how.
So they call CQ, CQ, and they’re always “standing by in the Buckeye” or wherever.
What they don’t know is that it’s actually far easier to call with a QSY. The operator on the other end only needs to hear a tiny portion of the TX in between QRM to know where to find you. And if they can’t copy that, they’re sure as heck not going to have a quality QSO on the calling freq over the top of all the noise.

I had to laugh...how the heck is anyone supposed to know where he is from, and what’s international to him?
Sure enough, when I follow a QSY to a station in Suriname...he’s the first person calling incessantly to reach me over the top of the “international call” that he seems to value so much.
That’s just the way it is. It will only get worse soon. I just try to stay polite, and do the best I can. About the “meanest” thing I ever do is ignore someone.

wanted to take this opportunity and thank you Dan for sharing your knowledge about international DXing, proper radio procedures, radio etiquette, using the cluster, and being a good teacher who explains things in a respectful way. I know I'm a greenhorn, greenhorns eventually become proficient if they work at it.

Nah, I’m a total greenhorn. For real.
I just try to share what I learn and am happy to see/hear some WWDX friends on the band and cluster. It’s fun working the international stuff, and I won’t lie that I’m lucky to be in a location where propagation is good most every day.

I heard some people talking on .555 yesterday. They were local talking. On AM. Heard lots of AM on other upper channels too and the regular 40 was swamped. Had some good exchanges on 37,38,39 LSB while people on 40 were AM. This morning I am hearing some local skip on 20. Sounds like Alabama or Mississippi local talk. They can't hear me for some reason. Haha!

Oh my God, Becky...look at that skip...the only reason they talk to those, mud ducks, is because...
I like big skip and I can not lie, you mud ducks can’t deny, that when Mother Nature walks in with her itty bitty waist and throws sporadic E in your face..you get sprung!

Hey, Shadetree....was probably us you heard on 20 in Alabama. I'm back on the vertical Shockwave about 45 ft up. Had about 35 people from Virginia on up the eastern coast to NY coming back to me and a few friends just ratchet jawing locally. They couldn't believe I was running bare foot. I said it's all mother nature and my 6w Cobra 25LTD Classic lol....
Sitting south of Louisville in E-town to overnight. AM-19 really cooking at 2015 local. From all over.

It’s been rough out here on the west coast! Your maps seems to show that. Haven’t had much luck on anything over the Rockies. Not just TX but also RX.
