Don't be to hard on yourself lol, it's takes talent to make contacts while dodging Soccer moms in minivans and kids on e-scooters splitting the lane at 50.
There is a guy here that used to drive around and send CW on a key strapped to his leg while driving down the highway...

Ha ha!!! That would be a good excuse but I was static at the time. LOL
Sending CW while driving sounds like no easy feat! That’s some skill!!
Heard Oregon coming in as plain as day today while traveling in my van, and that was a first time for me to hear from that corner of our country.
I am out in west Texas, around Ft . Stockton. I made contacts this evening to 249 in Alabama and 306 in North Carolina. It has been a good while since I have heard either one, so that was nice.
I also made a contact to a guy northeast of Austin just a few minutes later. That is probably about 300 miles. Weird conditions but cool.

Done for the night in Ft. Stockton. I will go to Monahans in the morning then to Cleburne, Tx tomorrow.
I have to agree with you @codeman , qso'd with Boulder, Denver, Kansas city around 1900 hrs and they were just as shocked as me about the unusual conditions. Pretty wild short skip, just too bad I didn't get the Codeman in my receiver!
I also talked to 757 in Boulder!! Forgot about that.
That's exactly who it was, he had some big clear audio and seemed to working a lot of dx.
So I may be able to reach you on I-20 between Big Sping and Abilene.
Maybe so I will be listening for you tomorrow.
last nite short skip was great no big pileups either
I will probably be in area around 11 to 12 or so. Not sure just yet. I have talked to a couple base stations 50 miles away before so maybe we can make contact.
