11 meter is very quiet?

Anybody heard of him, always hoping to run onto forum members. But haven't had any radio room time with my jobs I been working on, but the McKinley mic is getting modded tonight so I get my mobile time on the air.
Well the McKinley cut thru the clutter of 38 LSB to make a contact in G-Golly Wally land today so the confidence is building and I know my KL-203P is still pulling it's weight. Upward & Onward !
Had a QSO with 553 Codeman in 36LSB!!
He was coming in great but there were so many stations coming into SoCal from Texas. Hey thanks for that small QSO @codeman !!!

Glad to make contact with that Pasadena Mobile! Lots of stations in there but I had a good copy on you for a little while.
Had a nice relatively long QSO with 308 Missouri. He was coming in very strong and clear as usual. Very nice fellow!
I hit Ireland & Scotland today with the McKinley today in the mobile with my Tram 3000 & KL-203P. WOO HOO !

I think the success was do to the elevation I was at with a wide open sky line so I just figured I'd give er a whirl. First real contacts across the pond. I've tried from my base station in this valley with no luck.
Finally stopped raining in SoCal. Hey we even had a EF1 tornado a few miles from me…wild!!!
Called out and a local said I sounded like I was starving for power. Weird…couldn’t figure out why. Turned off my headlights and bam…full power, sounding good!! Even made a contact with a Jamaica station!! I think I need an alternator with more amps.

Every time I turn on the radio I hear a lot of chatter. I just haven't been able to chat with anyone. I've been trying to figure out a mic issue as of late. Some days it works, some days it don't. Last radio check I got I was told my audio was real quiet. That was on the stock mic. Ever since, it has given me fits. Earlier this week I hit a truck stop and picked up an astatic 636L. I wired it up today and it looks like I have audio again. I'll be checking with a few stations when I can.
A KL503. I know it draws because as I key up at idle, the idle drops. I guess with the headlights on at idle (stop and go traffic) the alternator doesn’t have enough amps.
