I got to use my new general privlages this Sunday on 12 meters, It was realy going strong. Made many contacts to France and all around there. I was real happy to make a contact to the Canary Islands. This was very fun and I did it on my IC-7000 at 50 watts and an a99 at 36ft.

Good going. 12M is a fun band. Generally quiet conditions noise-wise and fewer stations. Enjoyable QSO's and few pile ups. You may want to try some 10M AM stuff. The modern Icoms sound good on AM. Activity is on 29.000 ~ 29.200

Congrats on the upgrade to General. Put up a simple resonant dipole for 12m and you'll do a lot better than loading up the A99. You'll hear more and radiate a lot more of your 100 watts that way.
 
Yea I want to get a wire up soon as the weather is sunny when I am off work. Every time I am off it rains lol. I only ran 50 watts because I am not using a tuner for 20 and my swr is close to 3.0 on the A99, I do not want to hurt the radio. I still gave the stations I worked a 59 so conditions were real good.

Mercy sakes Airpuss - DON'T EVEN talk on a 3:1 SWR on that nice Icom. Get a tuner. Every ham on HF has and needs a tuner.

You are a new ham aren't you!!! LOL..it's supposed to be raining and windy when you put up a dipole. I put up a 40m dipole two weeks ago in the rain..sure, the neighbors look at me funny standing in the backyard in the rain with a fishing pole but I don't care and they don't mess with me!! :w00t:

I have never ran 12 mtrs.But all over 10...i run a old siltronix 1011c or d on 28400usb and everynow and then go up to 29.200am with it....hope to hear you somtime.Im on 28420 from 1600z till 2200z...73s from Missouri de n0zna/John

Sounds good, congrats on the general. 12 is a fun band. I like 17 meters also. Im just big into DX, I hangout on 6-17 meters, do a little 20 sometimes...
 
12 meters is a blast when it opens up, Many EU contacts here in Florida in the mornings and South America booms later in the afternoon.

I use a multi band dipole (fan) for the challenge of making contacts with wires.

Nice to have multi band capabilities with one feed line no tuner required.
