I've looked all over the internet and can't find any information except the type of tube it is and the cost which is the cheapest (amplifier) sweep tube I have ever encountered. Does anyone know what a 17jb6 rated output is? An amps available with six of them. I've never heard of an echo (base) amp but the cheap price of the tubes has got me interested in what six 17jb6 's will produce wattage wise. Thanks

 good luck, sweep tubes have not been manufactured in the USA for decades.

Solid state amps are the way to go since once the tubes start failing, and they will start failing, there is no replacements available except new old stock, and then one tube may cost more than the amp is worth.

Wrong! Do some searching. Plenty to be had. There's enough to keep that warm glow going for many years. Ad long as your willing to fork out the cabbage.

As long as you are happy with whatever you like to use, it's your cabbage.

As being wrong, I have been many times and will continue to be.

So post a link or address of a sweep tube manufacturer in the USA?:sneaky:

I'm a man of my word and hold it to the highest standards. Find the place in the above 17jb6 post that says there are currently us company's manufacturing tubes and I'll gift you $100. There are thousands of us,Asian ,Russian and many other used and nos tubes that will pass every test required to redeem it a quality tube. Ready to give your amp, transceiver, transmitter ect.ect. many years of warm soft glowing performance. That's all I have to say about that.

You must have a pipeline to a sweep tube supplier that nobody knows about then because every other owner of a sweep tube amp I know says the same thing about the availability of them. Some types may be more available than others however none are out there by the thousands just waiting to be purchased and most types are on the endangered species list and headed for extinction.

There are tube manufacturers overseas but AFAIK they don't do sweep tubes except for the EL509.

How nice it would be if someone would manufacture 8950s, 6LQ6s, 8417s and related tubes- How many old Palomars, Siltronix, Swan, and Wawasee amps that have been languishing could be brought back to life?

Exactly, none are manufacturing any sweep tubes used in any of the american manufactured cb amplifiers.

ONCE AGAIN I will ask STELL IS A RAT where is any USA manufacturers of sweep tubes?

My original post stated that none are being manufactured and only NOS are available.

You stated WRONG.

RTFF then reply to any posts.
You did not say any tube manufactures are in USA, I said that and you said I was WRONG.

Now prove I am wrong.

If you can not prove that there are indeed USA tube manufacturers or the only sweep tubes available for old American sweep tube cb amps are NOS that proves you do not research before you post. The term speaking out of your ass comes to mind.

MAN OF YOUR WORDS??
Perhaps you speak to many words and do not know what the hell you are talking about????(n)(n)(n)

I don't know how to share web pages but I can't understand why no one here can find the same company's/stores that I've found. Thay all sell sweep tubes. I know of sevral people who have retubed there transmittters, amps, and recivers. I don't know why I'm the only person on this site who can purchase used or nos tubes. I just had three nos tubes (purchased) replaced in my sonar. This is getting out of control and I'm not gonna keep it going but I will say this "if you cannot find/purchase tubes your not looking. Period.

Or so you are talking about used as well as NOS. I thought you were talking about NEW tubes and not NOS and used. I would never buy used sweep tubes unless I was really desperate. Knowing how most people use/abuse sweep tubes it's a gamble as to whether they are good or not regardless of what the seller says.

BTW all you need to do to share a web page is copy the URL from the address bar and paste in in a post here. Simple.

I do know there are some sellers dealing in NOS or supposedly NOS sweep tubes but the supply seems to be on a hit or miss basis and certainly not "in the thousands" available of any one type tube. Sure they seem to be lots of sellers out there but the supply seems to change from time to time as tubes are sold out or acquired again. The supply is far from endless.

And lots more but don't expect them to be all NOS and certainly NOT new as they have not been made in years. Most tend to be used and some even abused despite claims to the contrary especially on Ebay. I have seen "NOS" tubes on Ebay that were used so hard you could see the brown stains on the glass from the emissions like the one below. Contrary to what some sellers will tell you this is NOT normal unless the tube has seen heavy use.

There are tube stores out there, and
I deal with a few reputable ones, who test their NOS tubes and guarantee them.

Mostly receiving type tubes for old tube radios.
6LQ6, 6LF6, 8950. 6JM6, 6JG6A etc are all known tubes that are used with sweep tube amplifiers, very few ham amplifiers were built using sweep tubes.

Different filament versions like 20LF6, 30LF6, 20LQ6 etc can be substituted but require a different filament transformer so forth and so on.

Cheap tubes? I remember in late 70's and early 80's purchasing cases of sweep tubes for around $3.00 each if bought in quantity. This was when it was economical to use sweep tubes in an amplifier, every PIC N' SAVE, Winn Dixie, and Radio Shack had a tube tester in them.

Now a days if sweep tubes are purchased they usually cost more than the amplifier is worth.
