I got invited up to the neighbours house yesterday, He is a EXTRA class operator and was told he is a electrical magician..
That had my interest going good... I have always noticed antennas around his place, At one time had a original Avanti Sigma 4 up, That is what caught my eye years ago... Currantly has a V-qaud up but have never seen it turned in any other direction then it is now? is this guy alive or what I asked myself..
Finaly get a PH# and gave him a ring-a-ding ding.. Had a good talk and he said come on up gate open I have something to show you...
Opens up garage door and there it is ! !
A 1947 RCA BTA 250L radio transmitter... This thing is HUGE, weighing about 1700 lbs, a Absolutely Beautiful piece of equipment.. It has that art deco look of a time long ago.. Radio still has the ORIGINAL paint on it, just cleaned up and polished, The nickel plated trim pristine NO pits.. You are just AWE struct looking at it.. And one of the first things you think of DOES IT WORK? And before I get them words out of my mouth he is flipping switches and turning it on, The Humm of the power transformers was amazing.
We walk around to the back of it and opens the doors. This thing was SPOTLESS inside, like it was new in 47... He proceeds to tell me all what had to done to restore this beauty, EVERY part came out and cleaned to perfection. This was a year and half project that was scattered on his garage floor. 2.5 gig worth of pics to help document and for final reassembly of it..
Now the fun part this is a working unit and does fire it up every once in a while and stated it is about time to blow the cob webs out soon one nite...
and will give me a call to work it <<More audio>> I just cant believe this is right in my own back yard and never knew.. CANT WAIT !
