2000gtl and expo"L" kit problems! HELP!!!!?????

I installed the kit in place of the tone control and the AM

mode will line up OK acrossed all the(3)bands. however when I flip to the SSB modes, the bands freq. drifts too far one way AND the other??? I even used a shielded mini-coax in place of

the wire going from the crystal/switchboard to the former

crystal location and gained nothing. any ideas are appreciated.

I know I should have went the PLL swap route, but my friend

wanted to keep the ANL & NB switches functional and he

requested the expo kit instead.I heard others who had no problem w/this kit in the 2000 AND others who did,so I knew

it was gamble,BUT.........

thanks.SLIM CDX285

P.S.

I did ground the crystals to board ground also;no help at all.

Re: 2000gtl and expo"L" kit problems! HELP!!!!????

yes there was/is Rage. I gave up on the expo kit and yanked

the 8719 PLL out of an ol junker 2000 and fixed my friend up

w/the 6-pos switch instead. all is fine now and he's happy.

that's what counts in my book! I wish I could've got that dum

ol' expo kit to work tho;now he's out $25. ! (cost of the kit)

I didn't charge him for my fun and install and parts. that's

what friends are for huh???

I may try it (expo kit) again someday. What a pain in the ***!

Re: 2000gtl and expo"L" kit problems! HELP!!!!????

A couple of things, I never personally ude these kits... the radio is quite capable, contrary to popular belief to go from 26.815 to 28.725 with one crystal, the 11.325 and the MB8719 PLL, or from 26.175 to 28.045 with the 11.1125 crystal. This is accomplished by feeding the phase of the circuit back into itself. We have been doing it for years, it's stable, and works well. Also, you MUST wideband the VCO, and transmit and receive bandpass filters when doing frequency modifications. No one does, but in doing this, the radio performs the same over a wid range of frequencies.

Re: 2000gtl and expo"L" kit problems! HELP!!!!????

It's 100.00 even, and we don't use a kit, NOR do we use crystals, which are often unstable when ran through a switch, and wires...LOL...the things people do! We actually change feed the phase of the PLL back into itself. If you don't have the MB8719, we can supply it. Frequency coverage is either:

26.815 - 28.725 OR 26.175 to 28.085, your choice. If you want more information please check out our section of the forum, and we can discuss it further.

Take care,

Justin
