Ok question. As you all know I LOVE TO TINKER. So id also like my radio to have EVERY POSSIBLE MOD UNDER THAT SUN UP SO HIGH. So i ask my fellow radio people what is the purpose of this one. Now whether it has much purpose or not im still doin it so yeah. Im guessing this is what kinda goes "in between" Channels?
Mod
HAVE AT IT boys.
Ps if there are any other cool mods you would suggest. PLEASE THROW EM OUT THERE.

I've never experienced that mod, but heard that you get a few extra channels (like some A channels), but loose a few other main channels. 10kc is a full channel jump and does not get you in between. There was something I read about a few years ago called plowboy's mods...one where you installed a cap inline with the 10.24 x-tal, either a variable cap or a fixed value that could be switched in to allow for a 5kc jump or variable slide to help go between channels. The pll on these units cannot handle enough slide to get you in between.

It gives your radio capability to select the five reserved channels allocated for RC operation such as remote controlled cars and planes plus baby monitors, older garage doors and even some cordless mice. These channels are sometimes referred to as the alpha channels.

3A - 26.995
7A - 27.045
11A - 27.095
15A - 27.145
19A - 27.195

Changing the logic level of pin 16 on the RCI 8719 PLL chip will give you a +10kc or -10kc depending on channel selector. Cut the trace at pin 16 as shown and bridge the cut with a 4.7K ohm resistor. You can then wire the center contact of a spdt on-off-on switch to the PLL pin side of the 4.7K resistor Pin16. Wire one outside contact of the switch to Pin 9 for 8 volts and the other outside contact to Pin 18 for board ground.

...remember all your ducks need to line up in a row

The majority of cb channels are 10 khz apart... for example channel 1 is 26.965... channel 2 is 26.975. Alot of the channels go up or down in 10 khz ( 10 kc or 10 kilocycles... its all the same). But there are some channels where there is a 20kc jump between them. Between channel 3 (26.985) and channel 4 ( 27.005)... between channel 7 and 8.... channel 15 and 16.... channel 11 and 12... channel 19 and 20. etc etc

So technically... since all cb channels occupy10kc of space .... there is technically another channel between channel 3 and 4... channel 11 and 12.. channel 15 and 16 etc etc.
These are usually called the A channels as GRTS pointed out.
Basically what a 10 kc jump switch will do is enable you to jump from channel 3 to channel 3 A or in other words between channel 3 and 4... or jump to 11a which will put you on a channel between channel 11 and channel 12. Between channels.
Its like there are a few extra channels out there to talk on. I don't know how often they are used in your area... but we used to sneek off to these channels when there was a bunch of fools on the air that no one wanted to talk to or hear.... of course we had capable radios and he did'nt so we could sneek between channels.

Thats the only thing the 10 kc jump will do... it will let you jump up or down to get these "A" channels. With some radios.. you will be able to get only certain "A" channels by jumping up ( from 11 jump up to 11a)... other ones you will only be able to get to by jumping down( channel 16 jump down to 15A)

Thats the way it is with some PLL's... you have to jump up to get to some A channels and jump down to get the others..... so if you only do a 10 kc "jump down" mod" you will only get some of the A channels. You need to be able to jump up and down to get all the a channels on alot of radios.
