I just recieved my new radio today it is a tuber from ebay with a D104 Lolipop. It was and still is working fine, but I heard a pop sound and saw smoke. I opened it up and all the tubes still light up and can't seem to find anything wrong. The radio still works fine, its on frequency and dead keys about 3.7 and swings about 6.5. There are some kind of metal cans in it too. ANy ideas??

19 radios and still buying. Why? I don't know.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smokin.gif ALT=":smokin"> :

It may have been a capacitor that made the popping noise and smoke.I have had that happen on an old RCA tube radio that I have. The paper caps can dry out over time so its not a bad idea to replace em before they short and really cause problems. If you do change em be careful these can give ya one heck of a zap(as I learned the hard way).

Same thing happened with one I plugged up today. Same radio, same pop and smoke. But it appears to need some crystals according to the freq counter.

I had a cap let go in a 60 amp trpplite power supply it was like a gun going off I jumped but wasnt half as scared at that moment as I was when I turned around and heard my wife scream "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT OMG SMOKE!!" The look she gave me was pretty much equivaent to death.

When I was in high school and doing some amp building I learned about those big sprague capacitors the hard way. Went to pull the cap off a 6LQ6 and heard a pop...next thing I knoew I was sitting on my butt about 6 feet away and my thumb was smoking. Still have the scar. Thank god I didn't have the other hand on the chassis of that amp.
