Nice Rig

Only information I have is for a Wagner 500. Could you pop the lid and tell me what model PLL is in there? I bet we could figure it out and get a very similar schematic if I knew which PLL is in there. Also, if there is a identifying number on the PC board somewhere that may offer up a clue, too.

Thanks!

Re:

Thank you for your reply. I popped the lid and the PLL number is the following: UPD2812NEC. The mother board contains no id numbers or signs, not even a name of the manufacturing country. Do you by any chance have a scheme or do you know the manufacturing company so I can look it up on the Net? Please send me anything that may be helpful. Thanks again.

Better luck next time

I have posted this question at few different forums all over the world, but there was no replay :confused1:, except this one here.
Looks like nobody don't know anything about WAGNER.
Better luck next time. :thumbup1:
Wish you all all the best, God bless you!

Hi,
These were also made as a "Super Jaguar" and also as a Ferris SSB (possibly model SSB6000?).
I have a circuit here somewhere, but after 20 years it's probably not too readable / scanable.

This chassis is a good contender for the worst SSB radio of all time, so you'll have to be keen to want to fix it.
The main problem was the mode switch - rated at 0.5A, but carrying the full current of the output stage
The replacement part was unobtainable when they were new, good luck getting one now...

They had numerous other problems - wax from the synth melted into the speaker, cr*p zener regulation that failed and took out the NEC PLL IC, crystals that went open circuit, varactors that went short, and lots of shorted/leaky electrolytic capacitor problems. After they had been out for about a year, we refused to repair them, they were a certainty to come back with more problems. Even when they were working, they never sounded right on SSB, and were unusable as a base station because of really bad adjacent channel rejection caused by VCO phase noise and lousy filters.

Let us know if you want to persevere with it, and I'll see if I still have the diagram.

Cheers

Wow

All I could find listed were 2 US rigs that used that PLL, and both of them appear to be AM only rigs:

µPD2812C
Audiovox MCB5000
JIL 615CB

Sorry to not be of much help.
