Don't waste too much time any money on it, it's a soundcrapper. Try it with the soundcrapper turned off.

Sounds like there's been an internet expert with that golden screwdriver in it, I get that all the time here on the bench.

Might be worth a quick check by a tech, could be a simple 25 or less fix. Like I said though, being a soundtracker don't put a lot of money into it.

bfflorida I would start with simple steps. One of them you have already done which is to make sure it is not the mic. Two check the pins on the radio where you plug the mic into and see if any are broken or debris is shorting something out. Three check the wiring inside the radio at the mic socket and wiggle each wire as you listed for any pops or crackle changes. Four make sure it is not your volume control knob itself by twisting back and forth fast and wiggle it as you do it; if any change or it clears up as you mess with it there you are. Fifith check the RX gain control and do the same that was suggested for the volume control and see if it works. Sixth is to check the speaker connection to the radio and resolder each wire on to its post and see if that helps. Seventh check the PA and EXT SP inputs from the inside of the radio and mess with them to see if they are shorted out. Beyond that you may need a tech to help you out. I hope this helps.
