You might ask in the Export radio section since thats what it is.

The origional 2950 has an orange display. The DX model is the newer version with a surface mount board and green display.

The old 2950/70 requires that you move a jumper on two pins to Expand the TX/RX
The 2950/70DX models have an "E-Chip" that gets plugged in to expand TX/RX, just be advised that ONE online retailer has been know to open the box and remove the chip, so they can charge you extra to get what you should have allready got.......

your right Butch , but it ain't no biggy . I've noticed that a lot of tech questions get asked here as well ? but then again , they tend to get asked everywhere else more so then the tech section ......go figure huh . It's all good in the neighborhood. :)

the dx allows for a greater range of coverage once it has ben converted. depending on the revision they can use either a micro led or newer radios use a el diplay. the dx radios have a 8mhz crystal so they scan much much faster. the origional 2950's processors are no longer available. when you kill one you need to get a parts radio. the old radios used a black face with hard plastic knobs. the new dx's use a grey face with sweet rubber coated knobs. (i want some)

the origionals earned a bad reputation as being fragile when used in a harsh enviroment like a truck. the new dx's surface mounts take care of the problem.

cost wise the origionals can be had all day long for under $125. new dx's run anywhere from $215 (wholesale) to $285. those come with the chips.

if you pick up a new dx make sure you do the intermod rejection fix.

i currently own the old style 2950 and use it daily, i love the memory scanning abilitys. i have owned it sence it was new 12 years ago. i had a dx untill about 2 months ago when i was offered a good price for it. the both work very well. in my experence the older non dx's do a better job of dealing with ignition noise. its substationaly rduced on the dx after the int mod fix, its still less effective however.

has RCI fixed that problem in the new radios ? that mod was from 2001 so i certianly hope the new radios dont have to have it done .is there any problems or mods that need to be done to the new 2950dx radios ?

Perhaps it is just a perceived problem by a failing "super tech" that felt the need to "clean up his image". I know poor, joke but I couldn't resist it any more. I guess I just don't have the capacity left to induce good judgement anymore.I'll leave that to someone with a more solidstate of mind. :p
