Does anyone know how to do this conversion ? I have read that you can use a 9 volt with a resistor in line with the possitive wire. Also it is said you can wire a 2 AA battery box. Where do the wire leads solder ?

Thanks,

Ron

Got it Done ! It was very simple once I got to the battery. Now all I have to do is change 2 AA batteries and not mess with the soldered coin cell anymore<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif ALT=":D">

Thanks FastEddy and Jonbah !!!

Phil,

It is mostly about convenience. The battery is a coin cell that has solder tabs on it and is soldered behind the face plate. It is hard to find these tabbed batteries in a store. I went to RS and bought an enclosed AA battery holder that holds 2 AA batteries with wire leads. I then bought 2 AA lithium batteries that give the 3 volts to replace the 3 volt coin cell battery. I unsoldered the coin cell and soldered the leads according to the + and - sides the old battery was soldered at. I then velcroed the box inside of the top cover so it is very neat. Now the next time I need to change the batteries all I have to do is pop a couple of AA's in instead of tearing everything down and removing the face plate to get to the battery to solder a new one in.

hiya phil.on the older style 2950's the memory back-up battery was mounted on the backside of the cpu board.and

soldered in place, making replacement very difficult! doing this

mod will enable the use of cheaper batteries and simplify the

changing out of dead batteries. the original "solder/board

mount" batteries are kinda pricey and can be hard to find.

i did something similar to rons mod,but i used a solder/board mount button cell holder instead.just put some wire leads in place of battery mount and "remotely" mounted

the battery holder at the side by the chassis rail.makes a

much nicer experience changing batteries now!

no more @#^%,*%&,you lil piece of $@#%!!!!!

from the land of the worthless nut,

Slim CDX285

P.S.

good job ron! glad it went well for ya.pretty cool;musta posted

at the same time!LOL!!!

Boy,that's a long time Phil! I typically have to replace mine every 3-years or so.I still use the button cells, but I'm wondering if I should go w/the AA idea now? Something to

ponder 'bout!LOL !!

So I have a cobra 138xlr and the meter dose not work... It dose not key up and signal dose not work.... It is not stuck it the meter moves freely. now wires are resoldered on both ends...So now that do I look at. Could it be a diode or a transistor?
