well the display troubles in my 2970 cured itself............ must have had something to do with the battery

i hooked it up and started testing it <i bought it used> and all the reports ive gotten says it modulates VERY low

its throwing a hell of a signal but not "talking" very loud at all

i checked VR14 <am mod> and its cranked all the way up and the mic gain is all the way up

it has an aftermarket echo board in it that i dont care about so my next step is to try to remove that see if maybe thats the trouble

unless anybody has any other tips or tricks to try??

i tried contacting the guy who sold it to me on the display issue and havent heard back from him but ill give him the benifit of the doubt and assume hes busy for a few days and hasnt checked his email before i say anything more about that

thanx in advance
scott

The first thing I would try is to turn down the RF Power knob and see if that helps. If you have the deadkey set too high, there will be no headroom left for modulation and the radio will sound weak. If that cures the problem, then I would open the radio and turn VR13 down to a more reasonable level. I -believe- the recommended deadkey for that radio with the RF power wide open is about 50 watts.
