Got a Sparky 2970N2 today, plugged it in and it transmits, no mic, just power and an antenna hooked up thank God. Took the cover off to check the mic solder job on the inside, plugged it in, worked fine, touch the bottom cover to the chassis it goes in the TX mode, what the hell is that about. Tried power cycling, tried off and on with the power switch, notta with the cover touching the chassis, but with the cover off it recieves and transmits great, go figure, guess sparky checked it with the cover off then just put it in the box and there was a screw half out of the cover so someone was in it. Needless to say it's on it's way to the Ranger repair shop in California:headbang

Yes, all exports are converted and tuned as part of the sale. Did you call them and ask? Just curious why they had you send it to CA. Usually you send it back and they take care of it.

to bad the 2970n2s are so troublesum. i been thru 3 different problems with these radios and never was it fixed right being sent back to ranger, they are slipping on quality control with the mfg. and the repair shops they sub out too. had to havre mine fixed by a local tech to get it right. one shop has even stoped selling the 2970N2's until ranger gets the amp problems sorted out.

Well I look at it this way, it's already been on their bench and they didn't see the problem, why would I send it back there, all you had to do was try to operate it with the bottom cover on, I understand it was a Black Friday sale but I am still a customer spending money why should my radio get blown through then sent not working properly, my luck lately with either new or used radios has been horrible. Thank God I have a S-9 that works all the time

Exactly,

Sparky does not take the time to properly align and tune each radio before it leaves his shop.

If he only sold 2-3 radios each day, maybe he would let it sit and warm up and and take the required time to do it correctly (about 45 minutes.) He surely isn't gonna hire extra techs.

You can bet your ass, that all his goons just pop the case, cut a trace and turn the pots and put the case back on and ship it out.

Cracks me up when most dudes think their techs are going to lovingly adjust and tune your radio to purr like a kitten. Most just take your money and talk shit just to make you feel good.

His peak and tunes are not free. It's figured in the total price. Everybody knows their ain't no such thing as free.

Sending it back to Sparky would have probably just added more $$$ to the overall price of the radio. It's my understanding (after talking to a few people that got bad radios from Sparky) that he has been passing the buck on repairs for a few months now. He'll just tell you to send it to the warranty repair facility, so why waste the time and money sending it back to him?

WR0220 that was my thinking exactly, even if Sparky did fix it would it work as it should or just another fast go through, at least if it goes back to Ranger someone will really take their time to make a customer a happy guy, which is what I would expect from a warranty factory repair shop. They are not there to sell radios they are there to fix the duds and make customers happy so they will buy another one of their products

Getting a little side tracked here aren't we? if it displays these symptoms with the cabinet on then it may be some circuit being shorted, if it only does it with the cabinet screws installed then perhaps an issue with those being driven into that circuit.
