The easy 3 step program for sstv, for those on a budget, it is all free as long as you have a radio/mic and a computer...

You might look on the net for a sstv repeater near you, many states have them on vhf and well some don't.

That will certainly allow you to watch SSTV on the air. As for sending a picture using mic audio, don't expect much of a picture because it won't be very good, too much extraneous noise and 'extra' sounds in that mix. It does work, just not real well.
While you're at it, count on learning about 'slants' and timing and several other thingys. One very good idea with the MMSSTV program is to turn off the 'auto-slant' feature and do some calibrating of your soundcard and program. It really isn't that difficult at all, just takes a few reliable pictures being received.
It's fun! It's addictive too! Especially if you like 'messing' with pictures and computer graphics and so on. Gives you an outlet to 'inflict' your products on others, sort of.
