how do the 4 element sirio stack up against the tried and true 4 element maco. i see that the sirio is pre drilled and easy to put togeather and deburred. will the sirio perform as the maco 4 element. i just want to put up a seperate flat side beam for a siltronix radio set up i just use for Dxing. will the sirio flat dx like the maco 4 flat. sirio is priced lower also i see places that the sirio 3 element is only $99.00 just want a little extra help flat side a light wieght beam with a light weight rotor.

They will both "perform" about the same.

I don't care for the mounting hardware (element to boom clamps) on the Sirio and suggest you throw the black screw guides in the trash. This hardware is cast aluminum parts. Other than that, the aluminum tubing looks to be quality.

Buy American. As you said, the Maco is "tried and true".

hey thanks a lot master chief i guese ur last quote hit home " BUY AMERICAN " a few dollars saved may not always be the right thing. i liked the pre drilled holes i guese thats what attracted me to the sirio ease of assembly. but most likely will go with the tried and true made in USA product. the Maco. i am probaly the loudest mouth in my family when it comes to buying AMERICAN products gotta keep it in the Family of MY FELLOW AMERICANS. was curriuos about the perfomance of the sirio though

The pre-driled hoes are for small metal screws. Over time, the wind will vibrate the element and the screws will most likely become loose. If they don't, they will most certainly "pull" the inner tube out through the outer tube, making disassembly difficult.

I built a Sirio and used closed-end pop rivets instead of screws. I also threw away the stupid black plastic screw protectors. I also used Noalox on the joints.

I'd much rather have a Maco though!

Hello can some body give me some info on the sirio 4 element beam.I know on the sirio website that it says it's horizontaly polarized does any body have any ideals about it performing the same if it was mounted vertical.

I don't have an opinion on which would be 'best'. I can say that if the element spacing and boom lengths are close to the same, the performance will be close to the same too. Those are the biggies with directional antennas of this sort. The environment also plays a big part in how well any antenna performs, and that's so variable that there will always be differences, in both directions, good/bad. Unless something is really 'different' between two beams like this, there's not going to be 'day-light/dark' differences. That's one of those subjective/objective kind of things so, whatever.
Is this going to be any 'help'? I don't know, but it's something to keep in mind.

Doc you forgot to say that if one antenna is painted pink it will perform better than the other . ;)

i was of the impression that using screws with holes in the tubing leaves a little bit of play that over time can cause the aluminum to crack due to the slight amount of movement/play in the fastened sections .

ive never had a beam to use so on the performance i dont know . master chief is a smart cookie though and similar designs should perform similarly . going by comments ive read about the thickness and quality of aluminium sirio uses and the construction differences I THINK....... the maco would be the better antenna due to materials and how its constructed . if youre in a fair weather area the sirio would probally be fine though .
