i noticed today when i set the RF power on high on the icom 706mkIIg there is a weird static noise comming from the speaker. and this is only on transmit..... i also notice there is a small amount of talk back? any idea how to figure out if anyone stuck talkback on this rig? mic gain is at 5 so my rf settings are 1 is like super low less than 5w 5 is 50wdk swing to 150w high is over 100w and barley swings.

You might have mic gain too high, I run mine on 2 for 2 meter fm. Then on hf ssb I turn it up to 3 or 4. Also, are you running the separation kit. Sometimes the separation cable will let rf into the radio. Another thing when I have mine mobile it will do that unless I have the engine running.

well no i noticed this after using it on the base without the seperation kit.
i just also found out this thing doesn't do good on 2 meters at all it wont even pick up local FD FM on 154.0100 or the famous two meter repeater 147.4350 both my yaesu FT50 and yaesu VX 170 picked up these channels no problem. i dont know why the icom is not picking them up.

Icom uses a combo RFGain / SQL knob. Check your settings to make sure you have it set where you have maximum RF Gain. On mine, it was at about 2 o' clock. Double check the manual on that function to make sure you don't either have the RF gain turned down or the SQL turned up to high.

The RFI coming through your speakers is a common mobile problem. If you're using a powered speaker, place a small bypass capacitor across the power leads. Get some ferrite toroids and wrap the speaker wire around them as many turns as you can, as close to the speaker as you can. You should be able to get rid of it.

thanks. :)
i found out my junker Tram 2m coil was broke good thing i had a replacement they sent me a few weeks. don't ever by tram there junk!( i might try the comet tribander nmo antenne) also when i first got the radio i was freaking out cause auto SQL and Auto RF was on and i had no SSB ears! lol but i fixed that its working good now. i was worried that possible the power board had hit the 2meter receiving coils inside the radio and knocked them loose i checked that ( as that is a common problem with the mk2g ) but... like i said its working like a charm. :) thanks for the replys.

p.s im using a uniden ESP-20w non powered external speaker that doesn't seem to feedback like the internal one. al is well just gotta mess with stuff to get it dialed in just right. the speaker ROCKS! def. worth the $14.39 shipped to my door new.:pop:

So I have a cobra 138xlr and the meter dose not work... It dose not key up and signal dose not work.... It is not stuck it the meter moves freely. now wires are resoldered on both ends...So now that do I look at. Could it be a diode or a transistor?
