I wouldn't say that the word is an unpopular word. In fact, it may be the most popular word in the english language.
I agree that to be offended by the usage in the form of WTF is silly and prudish. Hamer is right, when do we get to live in the adult world?
There are a gazillion things far more offensive to be concerned with.
