What exactly is 9600 ?

I am asking because, when i turn it on the audio sounds different, no bass. it does sound alright to me..... on occasion.

iv only turned it on while rag chewing...and evening nets on 2m.

It is your speed of data transfer from your radio to maybe a computer through the com port, so it shouldn't have anything to do with your audio

I used to build cables and make computers talk to the machines on the floor, and they had to match baud rate, or pulse rate in order to communicate.

Well I definitely hear a difference, why I do not know. In the manual on Page 6 and 116 explains a little of the 9600 rate. Maybe it has something to do with the packet option? I do not know.

Audio doesn't need much bandwidth, just curious, where is set when it sounds the best? It is interesting that band width would make any difference.

Well when im listening to wx band I turn it on it cuts out any mids or lows and makes it all treble.

So are normally listening to the wx on the radio itself and then turning on the 9600 baud connection and the listening through the computer speakers? I guess I'm not following.
Well I didn't sleep any last night either. :)

Ok.no problem :)

When I turn on 9600 it changes any VHF receiving audio output on any external speaker. Nothing is plugged into any computers.

9600 baud is used in conjunction with the data port, usually with a TNC. For example, you might use packet on 2 meters at 9600bps. When you activate 9600, it seems that the radio is applies a preset filter bandwidth which is more narrow than needed for voice. That is why the audio quality changes.
