Highlander 821,
a very interesting read no doubt. I think it is sad that those who are war hungry have no relatives in the fight, no personal loss to face.
Obviously for me being active duty US Navy for the last 23 years, I strongly support our troops. Most all of us felt an overwhelming urge to go "kick ass" and show the world how we do our job after 9/11. We felt somewhat cheated and saddened that we were not put into a position to prevent 9/11. Almost a question of "where did we fail?". There are lots of questions that cover all political parties and various Presidents, but 9/11 happened and most is a mute point to debate here being 9/11 was a success in the eyes of those who hate America.
But, Iraq was a different story. No ties to 9/11. It seemed so obvious, but here we are years later, still there. There was never an exit plan because they thought everyone would give up and surrender just like they had done in the Gulf war in '91 (my opinion). I guess they decided to change their mind, and we are still there, without an exit plan. Hmmmm....I'll bet the next want-to-be- President elect will have a "master plan" and hype it big. Pick a political party, it won't matter. Democrats will want back in the White House, Republicans want to stay there. All candidates will have to sell themselves to the American public with their lies, and the current administration will walk away waving their arms, no longer their problem. He who has the best lie wins (again?). Aahhhh, American politics at it's finest. Sad part, none of these people lost a son, daughter, brother or sister over there, or had a child permanently disabled due to the horrors of war. They don't grieve every birthday, Easter, Christmas, and every other instance where a Mother or Father has something remind them of their sons and daughters who no longer can call them Mom or Dad. Only silence is with them.
With that said, I enjoyed your read. I ask that you (and others) keep in mind though, that not all of our Military personnel support this war, are not war-mongers (sp?) ourselves. Most of us would love to serve to keep world peace. But, when duty calls, we roger up and do the best we can to support the mission as laid out before us. We do our job because that is what we have sworn to do. We all have families also. I am not affiliated with any political party myself, and won't come out here and bash my Commander in Chief (i.e. the President), but I think I would have done a few things differently.
