Just got back last night from a week at the RIU Resort in Ocho Rios Jamaica. Last fall was our 25'th anniversary so we decided to do something in celebration of and go away this winter. I have been to Jamaica once before about 27-28 years ago but Cathy has never flown anywhere before. Two other couples went with us and we all had a blast. The RIU resort is an all inclusive resort with two sections,a family section and an adults only deluxe section where we stayed that has a few perks. To say the least it was amazing! The food was great. The staff were generally friendly and quite accommodating and everything was either granite or tile flooring that was constantly being swept or mopped. The place was immaculate. It just felt really strange finishing a wonderful meal and simply getting up and leaving without having to pay first. The same thing with getting drinks from any one of the several bars and believe me they were not stingy with the alcohol. LOL. Below are a few pictures of the last week.
View from out third floor balcony looking towards the north shore. Cuba is 90 miles in this direction.
The beach at the resort. there is a reef off-shore where the waves break making an almost solid white line. this keeps the beach rather calm even in a high wind.
We went on an all day bicycle tour thru the Blue Mountains which was basically a 12 mile down hill coast LOL. We passed thru what is the REAL Jamaica that few people bother to see. The mountain road was barely more than a single lane wide yet passed two way traffic.....when there was room to meet. Vehicles were constantly honking their horns on the switch backs and hair pin turns to warn others. Some bridges we crossed were only about a foot or two wider than the mini bus we were in and dropped straight down 60-70-300?? feet below into the valley. It was gorgeous here with the morning mist rolling up the hills. We started out at about 5000 feet and it was like being in heaven.
Looking back at the road we traveled on showing one of the support buses crossing a relatively wide bridge and just how steep the valley ravines are.
Another shot of up in the Blue Mountains.
I'll post some more pix in the following days.
