I'm not sure what "Cable CT-118" does, but try this: with the amplifier turned on but with no RF input, short the RELAY connector. Make a little cable to suit the connector, using your own ingenuity. When you short the relay connector, you should hear a click and the transmit light should come on. Since you're not providing any RF input to the amplifier, there's no way this should harm it in any way.

The 811 is not a CB amplifier that senses RF and automatically comes on. It has to be keyed. Usually the transmitter or transceiver provides this keying signal via a small relay, but it's up to the user to make the connections. This may explain what the function of that cable CT-118 is. Read the documentation for the 811 and the Yaesu.

How did you adapt the CT-118 cable to key the AL-811 amp?...
I key my amp on the FTdx3000 with the tuner output connection(same hook-up can be used on Ftdx1200)
Pins 2 & 3 from either plug(Tuner/Linear) should go to the RCA jack marked relay on the rear of the AL-811....
Al-811....switches IP/ Xmit OPR and of course power on....
If hook-up is correct when mic is keyed in SSB, you should hear the relay close in the Al-811...
If relay keys...switch modes to CW...turn the AL-811 Xmit Oper switch to STBY...
Reduce TX power to NO more than 25 watts carrier...
Al-811 switch to Xmit Oper/key transmitter...tune controls as listed in AL-811 manual...Output with amp tuned correctly should show 400-600 watts depending on band...
If all correct...then transmitter power may be increased for SSB to NO than 50 watts PEAK....You should see 400-500 watts on voice peaks PEP...if all is correct, then you are ready...
Word of advice 500 watts PEP on SSB should not be exceeded, this will make the amp run well and last for long time.
Today's 811a tubes are not very forgiving, so keep carrier where I stated and keep tuning time under 10 seconds and rest the tubes 20-30 seconds between each adjustments.
ON SSB keep the GRID current below 100...40-60 is best and she will operate well...
Hope this helps

How did you adapt the CT-118 cable to key the AL-811 amp?...

Good question...that's the cable for the Quadra amp. If need be you can key the amp relay with a hand or foot switch. THEN apply power from the exciter and tune the amp per the manual.

i thank everyone for this help and to let me see "the light"
it must have to do with the connection cable as i heard no click from the relay
i will test out what the OM told about that
best regards
