I was using my Palomar/Boomer/shooting star/no name 500 12volt 35 amp power supply combination with my Robyn , which wss dead keying at 2 1/2 watts. My uniden Madison is dead keying at 5 watts. The amp gets the same good reports on the 5 watt Madison that it gets on the
2 1/2 watt radio. Im not comfortable keying it with 5 watts. Am I being paranoid? If I should lower the Madison to 2 1/2 can someone tell me how to lower it. I normally would not mess with it but I know that is something I could probably handle. If someone tells me exactly where the pot that contains the screw to turn down the wattage is. Thanks again to my wwdx family. I truly is a family.

You should lower it to 4 watts. Low-drive pill box max-in is pretty much universally 4 watts to avoid overheating & blowing the pills.

Dead key watts aren't as important as peak watts are into the amp - IMO . . .
Four pill amps generally require no more than 20w/peak, unless the pills are 2879's. In that case, 40w would be peak input.

The amp is the Palomar 500 elite 12 volt power supply combination base amplifier. I'm fairly sure it contains four I 1446's. Im sure the Madison at 5watts dead key the anp seems to be straining, when I add modulation the fan seems to slow down ever so slitely. It also seems to get much hotter than when driving it with a 2 1/2 watt rig.QUOTE="

What dead key and swing reading are you getting from your watt meter with the amp on? This will help you decide on what needs done.
