Anyone know why my D-104 amplified stand wont key up my radio? It appears to be wired for the radio correctly and I have tried even a brand new battery.
But it does absolutely nothing when I try key it up.
I believe the stand is a tug-8 or 9 four wire cord.

Does the radio keyup with the stock mic ?? If not than the problem is in the radio. If it does keyup, then there is a problem with the D104. Use an ohmmeter to check the D104 keyup circuit. You will probably find a miswire or an open. It's just basic troubleshooting. Also, if it has one, make sure that the electronic/relay switch on the D104 is set for the particular radio you're running.

Your 4 wire D104 is a TUG8

What is radio? Is it a modern transistor rig?

If so then don't forget to check and see if the E/R switch in the bottom of the D104 has been set to R for Relay Switching. It needs to be on E for Electronic Switching.

Yes, I have already checked the switch, it is set to "E", my radio is a Galaxy DX 44v.

The only thing Ive gotten so far is a " pit pit" noise in my receive but no key up?

Alright, you say it appears to be wired correctly. So let's see. What color wires ya got going to which mic pins?

Good

Take an ohm meter and read from the pin ends back to where the wires connect in side the mic and check for opens.

Look everything over inside and see if there are any wire connections broken off or frayed and fixing to break off.

If everything seems good, then you may have a component gone bad on the little amplifier board. Not worth fixing. Replace board with known good board out of another TUG8.

Good luck

If the amp board is bad, the unit should still key up, but it will have no audio.

Again ... does the galaxy receive and keyup properly with a stock mic ??? Since it does not receive or transmit with the D104, and the wiring seems to be ok, then maybe the radio itself is bad.

The radio keys and reveives fine with stock mic, it still recieves with the d104 or even without a mic. I think I found the issue... The keying wires aren't where there supose to be on the tab board, I tested the keying switch, it works fine, so ill put the wires where there suppose to be and it should work. If the audio amp is good, I hope its not bad, I should be able to get this working. I might wire it up to my kennwood tm-241a instead, how would I adjust the gain pot on the mic for this radio, don't want to burn out the audio pre amp ic.

glad to hear this. if ya wire for kenwood id turn d104 up all the way
then adjust the mic gain to keep ya within the alc zone.this is
how i do it with cbs/exports and sounds great

I got it working now, it keys now and talks great on 2 meters FM, the problem was the red wire in the mic cable was open, so it would not key, replaced the cable and works great, it was quite a pain in the butt.
