Another TR396FCC

I friend owed me $25.00 and didn't have it to give so he gave me another TR396fcc to add to my collection. He told me about the great echo board that was installed in it also. I like echo when used properly!
I opened it up to see what was the mater this one as he said it received but didn't transmit. The first thing I noticed was a ceramic cap broken in two. Didn't look burnt so I replaced it. Still no TX. I uninstalled the echo board so I could eliminate it as the problem and the radio works just fine. I did find that D75 had one leg lifted.

1. Why would someone lift a leg of D75 on this radio? I think I read somewhere that it gives you Talk-back but this radio has Talk-back from the factory.

2. Also I want to do the swing mod to this radio or something and I found to different listings with two different resistors listed as the one to lift and add a diode. R266 and R264. Which one is the correct one?

3. I'd also like to see if I can add another final to this radio as it has the space inside for it. It has a C1969 now and I happen to have an extra C1969 in stock. So can someone direct me to a mod that does this or tell me how to go about it?

Thanks for all the help with this. I know this radio has the same board as the 959. I hope to hear from you all soon.

This what I found and have done to my DX 959. Loud Audio.
Super Swing Modification - R264

Again, since it is asked for so often, I have included the Super Swing modification for this radio. Locate resistor R264 and lift the right leg (as you are viewing the radio ? component side up and front of radio facing you) of the resistor from the board. Install a 1N4001 diode in series with the resistor, being sure to place the banded end of the diode in the vacated main board hole. This will allow you to lower the dead key and still have the full swing capability of this radio. If you plan to use this radio with an external low drive amplifier, I do not recommend performing this mod. It makes it next to impossible to match the radio to a low drive amp. Also, if you performed the RF Output Increase Modification above, this modification may not be necessary. I tested this modification first and then reversed it before performing the RF Output Modification (to preserve the validity of the output modification results). Since I was very pleased with the results of the RF Output Modification, I did not re-do the Heavy Swinger Modification. If anyone does both of these, I would be interested to hear the results.
