I used to use a v5000. It works as well as any 5/8 ground plane. A little extra care to weatherproof the coax connection and they will last a long time. I have heard complaints of the swr changing on rainy days but I never had that issue.

I fixed one for a friend a couple of years ago that had some corrosion between the ground side of the ring and also where the so-239 bolts to the aluminum. I'll bet that antenna had been up for over 15 years though. If I wasn't concerned with the power rating I would still be using mine.
