The ball mount by HUSTLER and others available today isn’t of the quality of the GE cast iron piece of the 1960s.
BREEDLOVE MACHINE SHOP isn’t expensive. Neither is GEOTOOL.
Expensive is buying the same or similar again & again because low quality fails soonest. And may never perform well.
Tell ya what: I’ve got several deep drawers full of that cheap stuff. You can have it at my original cost, but without tax or shipping fees. Most of it barely used.
Think of the BARGAIN!!
I don’t keep the gear, tools and supplies that are best quality in the same place.
The “junk” is handy for a mock-up or two. Or in an emergency (why mostly bought).
As to your truck. You’ll expend plenty of labor doing it right. To that end, see The Mobile Guide at:

Umm..., this isn't my first rodeo. Ive had this antenna on several different mounts and vehicles in the past and it worked well with little or no extra grounding. I used a fender mount on a previous truck and it worked well, but this 13 Silverado the rail is a bit different than the 98 Sierra I had it on. I know there are bedrail mounts for these newer vehicles just a matter of finding one that suits my needs and won't break the bank. But anywho, thanx for your input.
have you looked at the Firestick Stainless steel mounts?
Wilson also makes a Stainless mount.
I've run many many miles with a 102" and big spring on a generic aluminum 90° mount on passenger rear corner of bed without fail.

I wish I still had a picture of the install on my 98 Sierra. I used a fender mount and bolted it to the center of the front bedrail and added the HD potbelly spring and it worked very well. Put a tennis ball on the antenna for recoil so it didn't make such a horrible noise when it hit the back of the cab. I didn't need any extra grounding and had 1.2swr across all 40 channels. It also worked as well above and below 40.
Motorola used to make some nice ball mounts. I used to scrounge them at junkyards from old popo cars and fire trucks when practically everything was low band
Any amount of money you spend to mount your antenna to the bed rail of your truck is only going to yield Maybe 20% of the performance you could get with a $3 roof mount and Wilson 5000 on your roof. Spending more doesn't always get you more performance and sometimes the best solution costs the least amount of money.

Had this one on my Sierra with a topper. Worked well, I bit directional tho.
